Are you sure?
Fear is useful.
It tells you when you are out-matched,
It tells you to run when you may die.
It tells you that you can be a better person.
It gives you something to overcome,
It sometimes stops you doing really stupid things
And it gives you the will to fight when you need to.
The Autumn court isn't just about inspiring fear you know...
Fear can make the sweetest desire taste better than you could imagine. Fear can inspire the most devastating wraths. Fear can inspire the deepest sorrows.
People are nothing without fear
A conversation between Alice and Nova
Overview
|
Alias(es): Alice
Real Name: Alicia Staleson
Age: 19
Concept: Homicidal Alice in Wonderland
Entitlement: Maybe you should try asking her.
Keeper: Unknown
Freehold: The Four Wards
Appearance: Masque - Blonde hair falls about half way down her back, framing abnormally wide open blue eyes. Her eyes seem... crazed, to put it bluntly. There is obviously an intelligent girl there, but she is lost in the madness. She rarely smiles, and when she does, it seems to be almost feral. She is tiny, all of 5' and 90lbs. Despite her size, she is obviously very fit, and surprisingly pretty. (Striking Looks 2)
Mein - Alice's mein has undergone quite a few changes in the last few months. Her hair now drips blood so much so her hair has turned red, the blood seeming to fade before it hits the ground. Her fingernails are long, and look sharp, and blood seems to drip from them too. Her clothes, normally that blue dress and white apron, always seem to be blood splattered, as does alot of her skin. Her eyes recently turned red, like she had bled into her irises. Her skin also seems to give off an odd glow, like moonlight. When she stays stationary, blood seems to seep from her skin, leaving her standing/sitting in puddles, or leaving bloody handprints that fade quickly.
Character Information
These days, Alice is a bit of an odd girl. Most people would call her broken in fact. She seems to have moments of lucidity. Moments where she seems like your typical mallrat teenager. And then she gets that gleam back into her eye, and her mouth tilts, and you just know she is thinking about carving you up into little tiny pieces.
Alice is seen constantly whispering to something that seems to follow her around. Everytime someone asks her who she is talking to, she says the same thing. "No one you know."
Alice has made it very, very clear that she does not like to be touched. She tends to shy away from people if they try, or just stare blankly if they try to shake her hand. When people do touch her, she has been known to scream, at the top of her lungs, very loudly. If this doesn't deter them, she has been known on occasion to pull out her knife and try and remove the offending body part.
Alice is always brutally honest about things, often to the point of making people uncomfortable. She very rarely won't answer a question she is asked, and people are often taken aback by her answers, thinking that she is joking. She really isn't.
Anyone who has seen Alice around Mr Black, a Fairest Flowering from the US, really has to wonder what the relationship is between the two. No one has been able to get close to Alice, ever since she got back from Arcadia, and yet with just a look he seems to be able to reduce her to a begging mess. There are whispers that the two were imprisoned by the same keeper, and that their relationship in Arcadia has spilled over into the here and now.
Alice doesn't seem to fit into her Freehold well. Most of them refuse to have anything to do with the obviously unbalanced Darkling. This has not stopped a few of them turning to her when wanting help with their fetches, or if they need something done that their own morals won't allow them too. Many of the Spring Court have tried to befriend her, only to find themselves brutally rebuffed. She has been known to taunt the Summer Court into fighting with her, if only to prove they are not the only ones who can fight. Most of the Winter Court seem to almost pity her, or try to convince her to join them. Her fellow members of the Autumn court seem mixed about her. Some will defend her, others refuse to discuss she even exists.
Alot of people ask Alice what she does now. She always seems to have alot of money. She drives a nice car, and her clothes, when in her mask, always look expensive. When asked what she does, Alice usually replies with the answer 'I hunt'. Some of them take this to mean she is a serial gold-digger, others that hse is a game hunter. A few, mostly with ties to various criminal circles know the truth, she is a well known Assassin and Bounty hunter, putting the skills she learnt in highschool, as well as those she gained in Arcadia to good use.
Alice is known to be very, very close to Cain Grimm. The two are often seen together these days, and Alice is often seen smiling around him, something that alot of people find very odd. There are whispers of a Hearts Pledge between the two of them.
Alice suffers very obviously from Synesthesia. Everything is in colours for her. Alot of people have taken notes of the colours as she mentions them, hoping to work out a pattern. There doesn't seem to be one though. The colours seem to change randomly with her mood.
Pre-Arcadia

Born in 1972, Alison grew up in Sydney with her family. Everything seemed nice and normal, until Alison was kidnapped when she was 9. Not by the fae mind you, but by normal people. Well, as normal as kidnappers get anyway. She has repressed almost all memory of the experience, equating it with a dream, much like the book, Alice in Wonderland. She was returned to her parents, relatively safely, 4 months after she was taken.
Alison spent alot of her childhood going to various counsellors and 'shrinks'. Her parents were worried about the effect the kidnapping had had on her fragile mind. Alison had started talking to someone who wasn't there. Her parents figured it was just the stress of the kidnapping, but when this imaginary friend didn't go away, they began to worry more. Alison spent alot of time in and out of mental institutes, a diagnosed sociopath, with schizophrenic delusions, and psychotic tendencies.
At first glance Alison's teenage years were nothing noteworthy. Quiet, she kept mostly to herself. Her one passion through highschool was martial arts. She studied Aikido, and was a member of the Parkour club in her town. She kept herself very fit, determined never to be a victim again. On her 16th birthday however, tragedy befell the poor girl, and her family. Alison was found, at 6am, sitting outside her parents house by fireman who had been called in to a suspected blaze. She was covered head to toe in blood, and was just grinning oddly, telling them that everything was ok now.
One of the firemen said that he was going to sit her down, clean her off, and wait for the police to arrive. Alison didn't even get the chance to scream as the man picked her up, walked her around the back of the rubble left of the house, and whisked her off into the Hedge, and to Arcadia.
Down the Rabbit Hole
Alison doesn't remember the face of the Loyalist that snatched her. If she did, he certainly wouldn't be alive anymore. As he carried her through the hedge, she just kept talking to her invisible cat, laughing and joking, as though she was not covered in blood. It wasn't until she was dumped, rather unceremoniously at that, at the foot of her new Keeper that Alison noticed she had gone anywhere. Looking up with wide blue eyes, all she saw was a pair of brighter blue eyes looking back at her from the shadows. Looking back down, she saw that she was no longer covered in blood, instead she was wearing a blue dress, white apron, knee high socks, and black Mary Janes.
It was like her keeper had reached into her head, and pulled out her fantasy world, and laid it out for her to play in.
Alice, as she was now called, spent her time in Arcadia doing a few things. Sometimes she would dance, often naked, under the moon, singing and laughing. Other times, she would run through a maze, nimble and quick, hunting other changelings that had displeased her keeper in some way, their blood fertilising the hedges. Other times she would have sex with the other changelings, often Mr Black, always under the ever-watchful bright blue eyes of her keeper.
Alice and her keeper never spoke. Her tasks were always laid out before her plainly. Sometimes, if instruction was needed, it was always conferred to her by changelings further up the ladder. Alice was never her Keeper's favourite, except when it came to the Maze. No one ran it, or made the blood spill quite like she did.
It was when she was running through the maze one day that Alice made her way back from Arcadia. She was fighting with one of the beasts she had been tasked with killing, who was putting up more of a fight than most did. The two fell into the hedge that made up the maze. Pushing through it, trying to get to each other, they eventually emerged, both scratched to hell, in rural Victoria. The beast promptly bolted, and Alice, lost, confused, and unable to remember much, headed towards the nearby town.
This side of the Looking Glass
Alice has been out of the Hedge for approximately two years now. One of those was spent in the US, in the company of Alex White and Mr Black. She didn't really do much during this time. She rarely left Alex's house, and when she did, it was generally just to check in on her old life.
After a year with him, feeling herself capable of taking on the world by herself, Alice moved back to Australia. Not feeling comfortable in Sydney again, especially after the 'disappearance' of her fetch, Alice set up shop in Melbourne. She slotted herself into the Melbourne Freehold. As much as some of them are afraid of her, or loathe her presence, they seem to tolerate her for some reason.
During her year in Melbourne, Alice continued to visit Alex every now and again. It was also during this time that she met Cain Grimm. Cain and Alice forged an odd sort of friendship. At first, it seemed like they very much wanted to kill each other, and perhaps they did. Somewhere along the line though, in between the chasing each other, and the knife fights, Cain and Alice formed a close bond.
Cain and Alice recently announced that they would be having two wedding ceremonies. One in Australia during April, in Melbourne, and the other in the US, during October, in Detroit. A celebration of Autumn in each's home country.
Alice has been seen in freeholds all over the world. Sometimes she is making trouble, sometimes she isn't. She is rarely seen without either Cain, or Savvy Jack beside her, except in Atlantic City, where she has the welcome of the previous Winter Queen Rebekah, for taking care of a loyalist problem.
Aliceisms
Anyone who has spoken to Alice, realises that she is hardly the sanest person in the room. A list of some of the really, really odd things she has said is compiled at Aliceisms. Feel free to add to it if we missed something
Motley
Scissor shaped across the bed, you are red, violent red.
Alice doesn't really ally herself with anyone long term. She might do it for a week or so, but she quickly seems to become bored, or even paranoid about the person getting too close to her.
- Cain Grimm - Seems to have broken through a few layers of her psychosis and is rumored to share a weird variation of the Hearts Pledge.
- Savvy Jack - Alice and Jack, or 'Ripper' as she calls him, were recently seen together in Inverness. She seems to be oddly comfortable around the rather creepy darkling. Or maybe because of that. And he seems oddly amused by her.
Alice seems to constantly be surrounded by animals and hedgebeasts, some of them real, some of them imaginary, and some of them plush toys. They are -
- Chesh - Alice's imaginary friend since she was kidnapped as a small child. A few people claim to have met him.
- Larry - A small red dragon Hedgebeast Companion. Curious and inquisitive, he often gets Alice into trouble. He was a gift to her from Cain.
- Meep - A soft plushie rabbit, from Monty Python's Holy Grail, Meep was a gift to Alice from Cain.
- George - A soft plush white easter bunny, a gift from a changeling Alice won't name.
- Mouse - A real cat, and not a hedgebeast, mouse is smallish, white, insanely fluffy. She has one ragged ear, and a slightly swollen eye. Mouse has a tendency to run off with Savvy Jack.
- Club, the Baby Seal - The newest addition to Alice's collection, Club is a baby seal plush toy, given to her by Khamûl, a member of the Ashen Court in Melbourne.
- Who - Who is a puppy, given to Alice by Benoit for her wedding.
Enemies
Alice is rumored to have alot of enemies. Being a bounty hunter and an assassin does that.
