Overview: A young beauty with pale China doll-like features and light hair that curls slightly. Petite, compact and curvy with a pale complexion. She's experimenting with clothing, though prefers skirts and jackets and anything reminisce of the 1940's fashion.

She has sweet, pink bow shaped lips and rosy cheeks. Her hair is long and blond and often braided. She has been painted to appear pretty, demure and deeply sympathetic.

Known History

Timeline:

Born in 1930 in Holland to a wealthy banking family.
1940. The German's invade Holland. Anika and her family hide Jewish neighbors.
1941. She and her family are exposed by German collaborater and sent a concentration camp.
January 1, 1944. Abducted.
Traded to Pirates, becomes part of the Pirate Rebellion! Lives as a renegades pirate with a band of Lost Boys and Wind spirits who eventually escape through the hedge.
2004. Emerges from the hedge, seeking Rowan.
2004. Finds The Haven.
2007. Pieces of her family's art including her portrait appear in a European museum tour loaned by a private collector.

Current Activities: Anika works at Rowan's Inn, as a maid.

Devoted to Mother Rowan, she spends a great deal of her time helping her with her mission to rescue the Lost who recently returned to Earth from Arcadia. She spends much of her time at the Bed and Breakfast, "The Haven", or in the underground warrens connected to it, in which much of her Family lives and works. Anika is having trouble adjusting to modern society and it's technology, but is trying to get the hang of it. She loves books and knows all the local libraries and book shops. She enjoys spending her days in the local art museums and parks or working in her serenity garden of vegetable and flowers.

Background: Raised in Holland, the youngest of three children, to a an esteemed banker and his wife, who were active in society, her childhood was happy. She had an older sister and an older brother. Patrons of the arts, her portrait and those of her family were painted several times and were treasured in their home in Amsterdam.

In 1940 when the German's invaded Holland, Anika's father was already active in the resistance movement. With little prompting from her mother, Anika's family took in Jewish neighbor's hiding them in the middle of their home. Their house, had once held a reformer church, build between it and the next townhouse, to hold secret church meetings. During the War, Anika's family hid many of their neighbors until they were ratted out.

Anika and her older brother worked as couriers for the Dutch Resistance, carrying messages and slipping past guards with small supplies, or ferrying paratroopers out of nearby fields when drops went arye.

When Anika are her family were exposed for fostering Jews, they were sent to the concentration camps, branded as traitors. Anika was separated from her family, except for her older sister. Anika's brother survived the camps and moved to America, marrying and continuing her family line, after the war.

Anika and her sister were brutalized, tortured and experimented with while interned, which has brought out a profound fear of doctors, medical instruments and physical torture in her. Her sister died slowly, from one of the experiments.

Anika was spared a similar death when she was abducted, and believed she was better off. Anika's fairy captor convinced her that the Nazi's had won the war and terrified her with the prospects of returning to a living nightmare, encouraging her always to be "very good" or she would be sent back.

After Mother Rowan was abducted and Anika had more contact with other changelings she slowly began to believe that the war might be over, but was too afraid to escape, for fear the real world would be more awful.

Recently, she has escaped and without any connections, skills, or education (hers stopped at 10) she struggles to cope with the modern changes of the world, and has sought out Rowan to help her transition and survive.
