Bandersnatch Books

From Changeling Venue

From the outside Bandersnatch Books isn't much to look at. The brick exterior has seen better days, the sign could use a new coat of paint, and the door a good oiling. It's prime retail, sitting how it is amid the many trendy boutiques and restaurants of Georgetown, however the owner, no how many times she is approached, simply refuses to sell. The window displays may change with the season, but the fat tabby cat napping in the sunshine amid the books remains the same. Inside, it is a different story. The fireplace in the corner crackles warming, the overstuffed chairs were obviously designed with comfort in mind. Over the mantle hangs the picture of a local hero, his shocking red hair a contrast against his Hispanic features. The various wooden shelves are made of solid oak, and are sure to contain if not the latest best seller then certainly one that is a favorite of old. There is one bathroom and it serves both males and females equally, and the small kitchen in the back which produces scones and cookies of a distinctly not low calorie variety is homey rather then trendy. The Bandersnatch bookstore is home for something much more precious then dust paperbacks and college kids looking for a quiet place to sit and read. It is the Freehold of Liberty's Stand, the seat of power from which all courts rule in turn. Here is where changelings gather when the loneliness of reality seeps into their hearts, a home for creatures who no longer have a home. The Freehold of Liberty's Stand contains the dreams of so many displaced peoples who came to America seeking a place of their own and therefore the principals its denizens uphold are ones Americans hold dear. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
