History
|
c was born a very normal girl in 1950, raised sheltered in a good home, with a good family. When she was 17 she fell in love. It was painfully naive, little more than an infatuation with a boy at school. But when a letter told her to meet him at midnight by the oak tree, it was not a human man who waited there for her. Her girl's naive love proved far too enticing an object of ruin for one of the Gentry.
He took her and played his games with her for many, many years. He used her and shattered her illusions about love time and time again, throwing her into overwhelming dramas of passion only to tear her apart. But as the Gentry will, he began to bore with her and the games changed.
What she remembers most clearly is how he would steal away her mind and her body, leaving her a wandering ghost, searching for something she could never quite remember. In the end, when he would put back her mind again for a few brief hours, she could feel the parts worn smooth --- the parts where something was missing.
The realm he called home was always night, lit by flashes of lightning, and his home filled with grotesque candelabra that twisted to every corner of the rooms. She can still recall near the end, staring into those candle flames wishing for as much substance as they had, thinking in the strangely sideways way that was the only way left to her, that perhaps finally those dancing points of fire had become more real than she was.
Back to the real world...
What drew c back was a longing for reality. She still can't quite clearly remember what brought her into the Hedge one day. She remembers following a beam of sunlight, a thing she hadn't seen in many years. The pain of the Thorns was cruel, but she felt only joy, for the pain was real and she had a body with which to feel it.
The other side of the Hedge was hard and she had trouble with mental illness after returning to reality. She was not able to fit back into society and spent five years after her return homeless. It was only through the help of other Lost that she was able to pull her life together and eventually become a trained electrician.
And now, everything is fine.

As a little leftover from Faerie, c has an obsession with light, especially artificial light, but it almost doesn't matter. She is fascinated by it: from sunlight, to headlights on cars, to fireflies. Related is her love of physics. Even though she never even finished high school, she loves to read about the subject and spends much time and effort pouring through physics books many times over in an attempt to understand them. A devoted fan of SF, especially from the 1950s and 1960s, she can often be seen with a ratty paperback by Asimov or an ancient issue of Astounding.
She has a passion for experiences and hungers for new ones. Anything to feel more real. Yet true to her Seeming, she can never really feel empathy for those around her. Perhaps something was smoothed away those many times her mind was taken in and out, but when she's done with a project (be it a new book or a new lover) she's finished and tosses it aside with barely a thought. It's not done in cruelty, but rather simple thoughtlessness. But sometimes it occurs to her that maybe there should be more...

Quotes
Quotes by c or about c.
- "Sparks is a good kid, she lost a lot of herself as we all did... we can't really blame her for being a bit out of touch with the ins and outs of what it means to be human. All that matters is that she's trying to bring a little light to the world as best she can. A lesson for us all I think." -- Horace "Race" Ardent
- "It is said that no good deed goes unpunished. They were right." -- Nathaniel Fellows
- "All that glitters is not gold." -- Nathan Glass
- "Faraday's got spunk, and a bloody deep gut sometimes." -- Jax
- "I met C in Cleveland, of all fucking places, and I have no fucking clue why I started talking to some strange chick that looked like she'd rolled around in white Christmas lights and buried her nose in some book about robots and space travel. Still, the next thing I know, we're high-fiving over both belonging to the Spring Court and agreeing that we should be living in a world with robot slaves, moon trips, and some goddamn flying cars. It just goes to show you that there's a little bit of fuckin' awesome hiding in everyone...provided you're a Spring Courtier or an Ogre, of course." - Dzxoxian Brokehorn
