The Great Escape of 1989

It was a, contrary to popular opinion, not a dark and stormy night. The weather in Faery, being subjective to the mood of the Gentry was bitterly cold as the ten lone figures made their way down the narrow cliff path fleeing the chaos that years of planning and brought. Two died before they reached the bottom, pushed over the edge by the remaining guard to meet their deaths on the jagged rocks below. One more drowned as they all clung helplessly to the raft, pulled under by the vicious current. The remaining seven, wet and frightened ran the minute their feet hit bottom tearing their way through the Hedge to appear in Rock Creek Park. Vinnie the Red led them, George Smith brought up the rear, carrying Noemi Bandersnatch who was near dead. With them they brought the dawn of a new age to the scattered changelings of the District, and the Freehold of Liberty's Stand was born.

This is the legend of The Great Escape, which is told on many a night and can be recited in some form by many of the changeling residents of DC. Vincent Aquisto, Noemi Bandersnatch, Sarah Nguyen, George Smith as heroes and heroines, not for their daring escape but for what they brought with them afterwards. Arriving back "home" to find the lives they dreamed of inhabited by others or long since forgotten they did what their forefathers before them had done, they set about making a home. In the years that followed Noemi worked her way from timid store clerk to owner of Bandersnatch Books, the city's freehold and seat of power regardless of which Season rules. Vincent formed the Bridge Club, whose purpose still remains as a sort of police force, patrolling the hedge for escaping Changelings and helping them fight free of whatever may be chasing them. George...well not all stories.
