Dealing with Hedgebeasts

From Changeling Venue

Jump to: navigation, search

Preamble

The Hedge, for alle Glory and Wonder it holds, be a haven of Danger. Great Beasts wander its paths, and thou may find onne to endanger many peoples. It would then by thy Duty to slay the Beast, that the Hedge be passed by those that need it. Yet, the nature of the Beast, the very feirceness that makes it dangerous, be the reason thou may not face it. Considerest thou the plan laid here, that it may assist thee.

The Plan

  • Step 1: Identify the paths the hedgebeast may travel, so that thou might understand its proclivity.
  • Step 2: Discover the nature of its hungers and its fear, that thou may lure it to the Doom thou shalt construct.
  • Step 3: Discover a glade or clearing with stout trees to which the Beast may be driven by thy guile.
  • Step 4: Diggest thou a pit, that the beast might fall within. If the Beast thou seek be too large to hold by pit, construct it such to remove the stance of the Beast, line it with slippery clay and soft mud.
  • Step 5: The trees be thine ally, useth them an anchors for all manner of nooses and snares, so that thou may strangle and harry the Beast, as the spider doth a fly.
  • Step 6: Lure or drive the Beast with thy guile, by scents and by sounds into the trap thou has created.
  • Step 7: Ensnare the Beast in thy nooses, slip its feet with thine pit, harry the Creature to its exhaughstion.
  • Step 8: Be cautious in thy approach, for the basest Beast hath by Nature a glimmer of deception, and may play as the corpse.
  • Step 9: Peirce its hide with thy spears and thy arrows, never close the gap, lest it slay thee. If its hide be too strong, or thine arrows too weak, buildest a fire beneath the Beast. Let the heat and smoke do thy work.
  • Step 10: Work the Beast for a fulle day and night, in shifts if thou must. Give it no rest nor peace until it layeth still a fulle day. Then thou may declare it dead, and be joined in Victory.
