Physical description:
Mask - A very thin and bony woman that has a pretty face, if a bit angular. Her hair is a mousy brown and her complexion is very pale - almost sickly. She is normally clothed very casually; slippers, t-shirts and cotton shorts are usually the norm. She is tall, nearly 5'8", but stoops slightly as if to draw down her height. She appears so light that a small wind might blow her over.
Mein - She is seemingly emaciated. Her ghost white complexion is covered in dull reddish- purple designs that mimic the color of older blood rising to the surface of her skin. Her hair is a thinner and frizzier brown. Though she is still tall in her mein, she seems to fold in on herself - trying to make herself even more diminutive. A brilliant red scarf covers much of her decorated features and a classical Greek chiton made of claret gauze clings to her bony form.
Gentry: The Gentleman
Character Information
Background
Diedra Jones was once a normal person like everyone else. Well, not quite normal, per say – Deidra was on the fast track to success. At twenty-five, Deidra was already managing her own stock market fund; her skill at predicting the market was renown. Deidra was quickly rising through the ranks at Morgan Stanley and even landed herself a swank studio in Manhattan. All of that changed for Deidra when she was rushing to work in her new black pumps – maybe, just maybe if she hadn’t been in such a hurry she would have seen the black gloved hand slowly pushing the manhole open not ten feet in front of her.
Deidra fell for a long time; colors, faces, shapes, noises, everything blurred around her at lightning speeds. Eventually, she lost consciousness, when she awoke her body was suspended in midair; her eyes opening must have caused some sort of cascade reaction because very soon after she fell rather neatly into a box below her. The box itself, was not all that dissimilar to a carnival fortune telling machine, the sort you pump full of quarters. Deidra peered through the glass at her surroundings and surveyed the colossal library before her, she had never seen so many books.Out of the corner of her eye, a figure suddenly appeared much to her shock. The “Gentleman” was garbed in a classic Roman toga with a royal purple stole across his chest. He spoke softly to her, “Place your hands in the boxes;” she looked down, feverishly searching for the boxes and slipped her hands into them, horrified at what would happen next. Then came the unthinkable – something in the box shocked her so much that the very blood in her body boiled to the surface of her skin and arranged itself in intricate designs; Deidra screamed out in agony. The Gentleman nodded and said, “Good. This way, you will always know what awaits for you if you do not predict correctly.”
From that day forward, Deidre made predictions, she divined the future, she guessed, anything to make her master happy. She was clothed like a Greek Goddess or priestess, a befitting garb for an oracle. Some of the trinkets in her box helped with her task, but none was a sure method of success. Deidra was shocked often and was held in her cage for what seemed an eternity to her. Eventually, her mind waned and the only moments of clarity she possessed were when she was giving her required divinations. There were often others around her, though she rarely paid them mind, her existence was solely to serve her master.
One day, something unusual happened: shortly after she had given a reading for the Gentleman, an individual peered into her glass box – an individual she hadn’t noticed before. Seconds later, her box was destroyed and glass was strewn all over the floor. The mysterious figure quickly collected Deidra and the items in her box and carted her off into the unknown. For the next several years the pair navigated the hedge (she mainly was carried) and though she was unable to communicate beyond inane babbling, her lucid omens (the only clear words she spoke) saved them from perilous encounters as they traveled.Eventually, the hedge opened into a cave. Deidre’s companion called her Delphi, the name written on her fortune telling box, and provided her with enough basic comforts to live for some time in the cave. He cautioned her to be careful and not to wander to far from the cave and that he intended to come back to check on her. He kept his word and returned every so often; Delphi (Deidre) seemed content to stay in the cave and return to the hedge for sustenance.
Delphi wears a med-alert bracelet with her “friend’s” name (~Hector~) on it incase she is found or gets lost. To this day, she has been unable to regain her communication skills, though she seems to be able to indicate her mood and her wants through basic body language.

Ramblings (Quotes)
- "A surgeon cuts the disease out of someone, the tumor, they cut the flesh to heal, using a sharp tool to make something better. I'm just a surgeon. Cutting more out of her won't help Delphi. She's helped me see that sometimes one has to use more than just a knife to heal. Sometimes you've got to suck it up, smile, and do your best at supporting someone until they can grow strong enough to heal themselves." - Remy Carson
- "I still dont get it. She speaks nonsense 90% of the time, but that other 10% it's like speaking lead into gold. Don't ignore her, cause when you're not listening she might just tell you when you're going to die." - Amber Clinton
- "There are lucky guesses, yes. But not that lucky. She evaded me more times than I could count, and in a short period of time. There are senses in her that pierce the beyond. I'd swear it." - Vestigere the Usurper
- "Do you ever forget your time taken? Don't mind me and my harmless eccentricities. When you walk into The Hedge, think of Delphi. On and in her you can see the fate we faced and the reward that awaits you."' - Johan Gambrys
