Background:

Born Sarah Jacobs in 1950, Deyanira has a younger brother and an older sister. Studied hard at school, went to grammar school after taking the 11plus and then onto university where she studied English and took a PGCE in teaching.

Took an active role in student politics; demonstrating against the war in Vietnam and Korea. Campaigned for equal rights for women and in anti-apartheid movements.

In 1973 she left to teach English in Thailand, which she followed up with teaching in Hong Kong briefly, Vietnam and then in Cambodia. As a result she speaks many of the languages of the region fluently.

In 1975 she was in Cambodia when Pol Pott came to power. During the turmoil that followed the fey found it easy to snatch those who would never be traced or missed.

On 7 April 1975 the Khmer Rouge seized Phnom Penh, and Pol Pott came to power. At this time Sarah was teaching English at Tuol Svay Prey High School, just outside Phnom Penh. A few days after, the school was raided by the Khmer rouge. Sending all the students home; they arrested all the teachers and were transporting them across the country when the Fey hunting party struck. The soldiers were probably killed or captured, along with the teachers in the trucks.

For some reason the Fey left behind several Fetches. Most of them died; however “Sarah Jacobs” managed to escape the area and survived.

In 2005 Deyanira managed to finally escape her Keeper. She wandered out of the hedge and found herself back in Birmingham, although the recent changes mean that she barely recognized it. After about four weeks of wandering the streets she was found by Aria rummaging through the bins in the back of a supermarket. Although her initial response to Aria was to punch her in the stomach, Aria persevered and the resulting friendship has developed into a small motley.

Cormac the Poet With Cormac having dated her motley mate, no one is really surprised that Dey knows him quite well. Even if she looks at him with an odd expression sometimes.

Reeva Dey punched out one of Steampunk's kitchen cabinets rather than hit her; and has been know to mutter about punching out anyone that hurts her

Carin Mentor into the Summer Court, Carin stopped calling her "Pretty Lady" but does call her pretty much anything else. He also is the reason Deyanira took dancing lessons.

Steampunk Dey greets his constant flirting and attempts to sleep with her with slight bemusement.

Quotes

  • "Lovely Bird... bit of a weird taste in music though. Who the fuck asks a Punk to play 'Tambourine Man'... Seriously? Nice arse on her, too" - Steampunk
  • "Her loyalty could be the stuff of legend, but given the world we live in, it will end bleeding in a dirty alleyway. The glory will be there, but few will see it." - Cormac the Poet
  • "The best friend a girl could ask for, even if she has evicted me from my own kitchen, disapproves of my choices more than my own mother, and needs constant gentle guidance when it comes to people trying to hit on her..." - Aria
  • "She's wonderful! I hope she realises that too and perfectly lovely and right. She's all natural and lovely and no hole in a kitchen cabinet will make me think otherwise" - Reeva
  • "She's a very nice person, but she's a bit angry. I hope she doesn't hit any people who don't deserve it, because then she'll just feel really rotten." - Arthur MacAodh
  • "In world of grey, it's nice to find absolutes. I offer a promise of friendship to her, and I so I would swear by the sun above, and the moon at night that I will consider her my friend until the light fades from my eyes, and the fire stills in my chest. And I know she will not betray that trust'" - Carin
  • "She has quite a gift when it comes to making food and drink, simply divine. It appears that she will also do anything for her friends and that is quite another gift. Both are equally as precious." - Graceful Aline
  • "A good friend, and a good cook, but sometimes has trouble leaving well enough alone. That can be the death of you." - Cormac the Poet
  • "Dey's really tall. And she cooks really well. And she likes the bear I made her. That's just some of the reasons I'm glad we're friends. I feel like I can trust her, which is really rare in the world at large." - Violet Pennyfarthing
  • "She's a good girl, and a member of my most favourite all-girl motley ever. It gives me comfort knowing she's back at home in Birmingham looking after everyone." - Bram Stoneham
  • "She seems to have something against Pol Pot." - Orpheus Bane
  • "She cooks stuff that I can eat! I think she might be a genius." - Rosie
  • <translated> "She's so sweet! She blushed! All I did was fix her..." - Zenica
  • "I have learned but three things from this one. She goes crimson arround attractive women, she is a damm fine cook, and sweet mother of buddha has she got an arm on her.... now where is my asprin I have a headache" - Cai Xiao
  • I get the feeling she'd be loyal till death. I'm unsure about what that loyalty might be to, though." - Hoffman

Rumours

Deya says her food is free from obligation. However, should you accept a toffee apple from her, you've unwittingly entered into a lifelong pledge.

Deya's food is cursed, so that if you eat a piece of food shes cooked that is somehow connected to your past, it will bring back painful memories.

If caught by surprise, or in a situation where most folks would swear, Deya's language shifts from English to something that sounds Oriental.
