Physical description (Mask): Doc appears in an old worn coat with a stained sweater. His brown hair is unkempt and his beard is a few days old…and by all accounts he is a homeless man on the streets of New York City. He has spent the past seven years avoiding the real world and running from the past, but his hazel eyes reveal the only aspect of his character, traumatized by the horrors he has seen…
Physical description (Mein): Doc has become a pale shadow of his former self…the stuff of spook stories. He has become an alien thing, taller now, thin and gaunt, bald with solid black eyes and long delicate fingers. His very touch is cold. His breath…frost.
HISTORY
Then…
Specialist Malcolm K. Shepherd appears to have been a gifted student, born and raised in Albany, New York. His mother was a nurse and his father served and died in Korea. Malcolm won several track and field competitions in High School and showed a talent for biology and medicine. His older brother, Dean, served a single tour in 1967 and was wounded in action. Upon his return home, Malcolm dropped out of medical school and enlisted as a conscientious objector, finishing his BT at Fort Campbell, KY. Private Malcolm Shepherd, as part of the 101st Airborne Division, was assigned to the 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, First Platoon, under the command of Captain Marcus W. Poole. In December, 1967, the 3rd Battalion was deployed to Vietnam. The “Iron Rakkasans” fought with extreme valor in twelve major campaigns, conducting numerous air assaults & search & destroy missions. Specifically, the Battalion is noted for their conduct during the battles of Trang Bang and Dong Ap Bia Mountain.
Malcolm was extremely quiet, and could be found reading the works of William Shakespeare. Further, he was viewed as a good man and a kind friend, more than willing to place himself in danger if it meant safeguarding the men of his platoon. While his firing skills were slightly below average, he showed vast amounts of stamina and an ability to perform under intense stress, compartmentalizing the trauma of a given situation and focusing on the task at hand. Despite his moral objections to warfare and his CO status, Malcolm performed his duties with professionalism and care.
During…
During the Platoon’s initial capture by the Twilight King, Shepherd did what he could for the rest of the Men. With few supplies and constant struggles, Shepherd submitted to every act of inhumanity to ensure that the man behind him didn’t need to. With every friend he lost, Shepherd slipped further and further away…until he finally became something else. A tool. A function. Patching up his friends and foes alike. He was eventually sold into slavery and placed into the hands of the Army of the Bloody Glove, under the command of the Knight Marshall of Silver and Ice…
And Now…
Doc remerged from Arcadia in the middle of Central Park, December 31st, 1999. With little time to figure out what had transpired, Doc found himself taking care of another young fugitive from Arcadia. Within the coming year Doc managed to establish his place in the world, leaving the real one behind and stepping into the Freehold of New New Amsterdam. He carved out a place for himself in the sewers and manages one of several Apple Clinics, providing his service for any and all.
Doc has long since lost his innocence, and his temperament. He has become something of a ragged curmudgeon, with a sour disposition and a cynical, reclusive nature. He helps those he can not because he has some deep altruistic need…but because it is all he knows how to do. His former life is dead…and he is tortured by the demons inflicted upon him during his imprisonment. All he has known, for thirty years, is horror and pain. And thus, with each wound he patches up, he attempts to forget the places he’s been and the things he’s done and seen…

Clyde - LT was a good man. A good friend and a good leader. Once upon a time, anyway. Now...now he's only a little better than Rook.
Copper - Aint no sound more glorious than that chopper commin' in, taking all kinds of heat. Like some fuckin' Archangel sent by God himself to save our torn up asses...
Elizabeth Ann Sexton - People say she's young and innocent, but no one goes through what we did and walks away unscathed.
Hush - I will never see the world the way he does.

- "Doc did his best to save my legs before they took me away...I always was good at getting myself into trouble. Doc did his best to keep me alive and make sure that trouble didn't stick.
