Description

The Dread Lord of Trespasses appearance to the taken varies from individual to individual but it is always appropriate to that of whatever faith or culture they come from as one who oversees the burial areas or death rites of the dead. The most common description is a hooded lich-like figure. Solemn, he speaks only in hushed tones. It is certain that the Dread Lord of Trespasses is an accomplished Pledge Crafter and Oath Master even for the Gentry with few peers when it comes to the realms of darkness, death, and the land. None would challenge him when it comes to his namesake.

Domain

The Dread Lord of Trespasses estate is a twisted and vast labyrinthine nightmare. The walls all massive and oppressive blocks of stone ranging from the palest grey to the darkest black that suck any thought of hope from your very being. If it was for the cold calculation of the mind behind it, it would seem as if color was anathema to the realm. Even when it is to be found it brings its own sadness for it is nothing more than the gift of hope given to one of the taken as they reach the end of a cycle of torture to be taken away as the process repeats itself.

Durance

The Trespass

Changed who were abducted by The Dread Lord of Trespasses were usually done so because they violated some type of sacred ground such as burial mounds, tombs or graveyards. Occasionally one may attract his attention by committing trespasses of the flesh but as there are other Gentry that look after such things he usually only comes when it is done against the dead. There are yet an even rarer breed that manage to find themselves in his tender care for committing unspeakable trespasses best left unspoken. And sometimes one is simply unlucky enough to wander in through the hedge. Goblin slavers know that they can always sell those whom they have found crossing into the hedge.

Captivity

A variety of twisted games and mental and physical tortures await the taken. They may experience the tantalizing terror of a neverending gladiatorial game where one fights the same battle over and over again...when the key to freedom is to beat the next combattant up the tournament ladder. Or they may have to recover a small trinket hidden somewhere in the vast estates before the hellbeasts hunt them down and devour them, feeling the agony as teeth tear flesh and crush bone...only to start the quest anew after they are expelled and reform.

Sometimes it is more of a soul-numbing nightmare as a piece of furniture or equipment just waiting to be broken. Still others work as caretakers, servants, or pleasure slaves for the estate in a multi-layered mousetrap of overlapping duties and pledges that force them to either damn others to horrific punishments for not fulfilling their tasks or risk being punished themselves for not reporting the violation. Paranoia, betrayal, cruelty and fear boil under a surface that survival dictates must retain its placid facade.

The one certain thing is that if you are appointed to The Dread Lord's personal retinue of advisors and servants your time is almost over. For the next step is to become an overseer yourself, and none who have become such have ever escaped.

One common thing that all who have been captured have to say (when you can get one of them to speak of their captivity) is that one must ask permission for even the most minor things, especially to speak. Punishments tend toward those of a cyclic, unyielding and unending nature. It is said that light was the most precious of commodities.

Post Captivity

While the changed that have escaped from The Dread Lord of Trespasses can be mentally broken shells or hardened individuals one thing they all have in common is that they are very astute when it comes to making oaths and pledges. Above all they know where and when not to go someplace.
