Ethnobotany is a cross disciplinary field of study that includes Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Botany, and Horticulture. This science explores the cultural knowledge of local plants and their use for a variety of purposes in different settings. A background in Ethnobotany begins with a strong belief that increasing awareness of the range of potentially useful plants worldwide provides a strong incentive for protecting the world’s cultural diversity, because it is people who are the repositories of knowledge about different botanical resources. Ethnobotany taps into that indigenous populous and studies the cross-cultural application of people’s knowledge about and use of various plants in their environment.
