My Dreams Are the Sun:

My Dreams Are the Sun

See that golden hue
Burning in the west
My dreams are with that color
My dreams are the sun
The sun always sets
But never seems to rise
That sun carries my dreams
Slowly out of my reach
I watch it slide away
Leaving me behind
The color disappears
My dreams are with that sun
Whenever the sun sets
It rises in another place
A place blessed by that light
My dreams are hidden in that light
At my window seat
I watch the sun take it all away
My dreams are with the sun
My dreams are the sun

Description of Venue:

History: Phoenix, Arizona, Valley of the Sun, home to hundreds of thousands of angry drivers in 122 degree heat. Even in the dark of MidWinter, the landscape gleams with hidden mirages on the desert horizon. Cactus stretch thorned arms ever skyward and Palo Verde trees snag passers by with their sharpened fingers. One need only open one's eyes to see the Thorns and the Hedge in this God forsaken place. But one man's hell is another man's heaven, and for those of the Summer Court, The Valley of the Sun was Paradise. The seemingly never ending season of Summer called to those who had pledged themselves to the Angry Court and so they came, answering the Siren's Call. Their strength and numbers quickly over shadowed all others in the area, making it almost impossible for any of the other Courts to hold sway. It came as no great surprise when Aerian Gynholm ascended the Summer Throne in 1953 and refused to yield it to the Atumnal Heir: Tireseas. Civil War erupted, but the strength and unity of the Summer King was too great to beat down, and the other Courts were thrown into the monotony of an Endless Summer. For 50 years the Summer King would hold the area in his tyrannical fist until the Mid Winter of 2002, when his pride would finally signal his downfall. Tiring of the incursions of the Others into the area, triggered by the unnaturally endless season, members of the other 3 Courts unified briefly. The details of their coup have never been unearthed, some believe that they entered into a Pledge of Silence, never to reveal its details, others believe that they suffered the same fate as the Summer King. But what is known and cannot be disputed is this:

On December 21, 2002 Anerian Gynholm's Keeper, with a contingent of Privateers, came for him and dragged his aging body back through the Thorns to Arcadia, leaving in its wake, the shattered remnants of a handful of Summer Courtiers who managed to survive the Other's attack. Five years have passed since that fateful night. The Courts have returned to their cyclical nature. But the strength of Summer cannot be denied in the Valley of the Sun. So the other Courts wait and watch and prepare. And know that one day, like Polynieces and Eteocles, a battle for the throne will occur once more. The question is simply : when?.

Theme / Mood:

"The theme for this game is one of paranoia and fear, corruption and salvation. Your life has been stolen from you by horrific monsters that even now still pursue you to take you back to the depths of Hell. Having lost the only thing that allowed you to find your way back through the labyrinth of the Hedge, ( your Hope of returning to your former life) you cling to the shattered and twisted remnants of the mortal world, hoping and praying that you will find SOME peace and resolution to it all, before you either die, battle your Keeper or are dragged back to Arcadia. Will you give in to the Darkness that surrounds you or will you find a way to overcome it all and make sure that this never happens to anyone else again? Will you fall to the evil that your Keeper has become, or will you overcome what Fae has made you? Will corruption reign supreme or will Hope prevail?

Storytelling Mechanics:

Proxy rules: All proxies into this game are considered HARD PROXIES, proxies will be addressed by the ST Staff as soon as possible. 72 hours advance is needed for proxies intended to be run at game. The ST assumes no responsibility for securing a player for the proxy, but will make every reasonable attempt to secure a player for the character. Downtime proxies for conversations and small scenes can reasonably be expected to be resolved in 72 hours, giving the ST time to determine what form of documentation will be required. A short summary or log of the meeting may be requested. The ST requests 24 hours advance notice for all attendees who are not attached to the VSS. This notice can be submitted via e-mail and should include; character name, subtypes, character sheet, brief character description, method of transportation, goals for the evening, players name and cam # and players VST contact information. Without 24 hours notice, the ST may request that you instead play an NPC, as they did not have an opportunity to adjust their game appropriately for the arrival of the character. ( Note: that this notification is required per character, not per player.) In all instances, the ST reserves the right to refuse visiting characters in an effort to preserve the VSS.

Travel risks: Travel to and from the city of Phoenix (from locations outside the metro area) is typically by air or bus. Phoenix is surrounded by hundreds of miles of desert. The city has an extensive freeway system for those who drive. Please check with the VST for potential dangers for all travel to and from the Domain.

Challenge Resolution
Challenges are resolved as stated in the Mind's Eye Theatre books and related Camarilla Fan Club addenda. Occasionally, a storyteller or narrator may make a ruling in the interest of promoting more role-play or to speed up a lengthy challenge. These rulings will stand at the time they are made. If any players have issues with the rulings made by a ST or narrator, they are encouraged to talk to the venue storyteller, after the game. The 1-10 card system is the preferred method of challenge resolution of the VST. The ST reserves the right to inspect any card set. The ST also reserves the right to substitute his or her own 10-card set for any player's 10-card set. Card sets will be inspected at check in. If a player does not have their own card set, the ST or Narrator's set will be used. Another preferred method will be to place a d10 die into a transparent plastic container, shaking it, then placing it down in plain sight. The ST also reserves the right to substitute his or her own 10-card set for any player's d10 set. Dice sets will be inspected at check in. All challenges will require an ST or ST approved/appointed Narrator witness. Any challenges thrown without a proper witness will be nullified.

Side Scenes Side scenes that require hard challenges MUST have Venue VST notification/authorization for them to be valid. Any side scenes run beyond the scope of a normal game that have hard challenges that the Venue VST is NOT made aware of PRIOR to said scene will be nullified.

Miscellaneous:

Downtimes Downtimes and e-mail/online play are not required, but do help to enhance the story. All downtimes must be submitted directly to the VST. Email/online play must be sent CC or BCC to the VST or it will not be considered for IC use. The VST may opt to accept a monthly update of online activities for more active online players in lieu of all copies of communication. Downtime kills ARE permitted in this venue with sufficient cause .

Storyteller House Rules:

Character Creation

Restrictions: Based on the actions of the past, membership in the Summer Court shall be available, but limited to ST discretion. For the first year of play : Winter, Spring and Autmumn Courts shall have higher memberships than Summer. Courtless are welcome, but shall not overpower the other Courts in numbers.

Hallow: Players are encouraged to submit a Hallow description to match their Merit points. With out the Hallow Merit Points the character is assumed to be living in a studio apartment somewhere in Phoenix with a basic deadbolt for security.

Approvals: All normal approval procedures are in place.

Status/Mantle: The ST reminds all players that taking status does not grant positions in the city, only a certain respect and deference from other loyal members.

PC Histories: Character histories are a requirement for character approval. All PC's MUST HAVE at least ¾ page history in order to be approved for play on this VSS. In depth backgrounds can provide benefits, so long as they go beyond explaining just the basic background of the character. Characters with spotty, incomplete backgrounds can expect help from the ST staff filling them out for the purposes of advancing plot. Players who go out of their way to play a character concept that is "new to them" or "different from what they usually play" can expect to receive additional assistance from the ST in helping to advance plotline and establish character history.
