Physical description: Tall and long-limbed, Firebrand was the poster boy for the Australian hippy movement before he was taken, and his ten years in Arcadia were kind to his body, if not his soul. His shoulder-length hair, a burnished brown in his mortal Mask, brightens to the lustre of hot embers in his fae mien. His hazel eyes dance with sparks to fae sight, and his skin always seems to be bathed in firelight, gleaming red or yellow.

Basic Timeline:
- Born Edward Atkinson in Canberra on May 13, 1954
- Studied visual arts at the Australian National University
- Lured away by his Keeper during the Aquarius Music Festival held on the ANU campus in May 1973
- Returned to Canberra in January 2005, having experienced ten years in Arcadia
- Deposed from the throne a day before the end of Summer 2008 by D'Artagnon

Firebrand's Keeper was the Contessa of the Sunless Sea, a rather ironic title for a Fae who had been banished to the darkest, least pleasant reaches of Arcadia following some unknown political disaster. Unable to move out of her new home, and hating the gloom that surrounded her, she travelled to Earth to lure away a mortal to fill her home with light and beauty.
The "Contessa" is one of the weaker denizens of Arcadia, living as she does in the midst of the Sunless Sea with no true household. The majority of her personal power goes into holding back the monsters and other deathly influences of the Sunless Sea, and so her home consisted of herself and Firebrand, holding back the darkness together. With little energy to divert towards running her household, her only punishment was simple - to be cast out of the household into the Sunless Sea until the "lesson" was learned.
