Overview

Based in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle, the Stingrays are dedicated to helping the little guy, saving the day, and protecting the meek... for a price. Those who ask for help from the Stingrays are always asked for a favor in return. Sometimes the favor is "cashed in" immediately, and sometimes it takes years to hear back from the Stingrays. The repayment might be inconvenient or disagreeable, but it is always equal to the help given by the Stingrays originally, and is always a fair deal.

The Stingrays work out of a large, ramshackle house/compound called "The Dock". Perched precariously on the edge of the Duwammish River in an industrial part of Georgetown, the house is open to visitors, but only in limited areas and rooms. Rumor has it that the house actually perches precariously on the edge of the Hedge, and that its corridors and rooms shift back and forth between the real world and the Hedge with alarming randomness and frequency.

Concept

Heroes with white hats tarnished and grey, willing and able to help the underdog and the meek. But everything comes with a price, even charity. "A favor for a favor, always."

Services

If you're in trouble, if you're out of options but no one is willing to help you, and if you're desperate, you should call...
The Georgetown Stingrays.

The Stingrays are actually a fairly diverse lot, and stopping by their house are a wide assortment of clients:

  • Hedge retrievals - Have a Motley-mate lost in the Hedge? The Stingrays will bring em back.
  • Hazard travel - When Valanga's clients want travel through dangerous areas, she often enlists members of her Motley for protection.
  • Investigation - Husband cheating? Family member gone missing? The Stingrays will find the answers.
  • Protection - The Stingrays hate bullies, and many of their clients are victims looking for advocates.
  • Commissions - Athanor is known for the quality of his weapons and armor, although he's picky about which commissions he'll accept. Race will sometimes enchant a single item for short-term use by a non-Motley Changeling, although the cost can be daunting.
  • Salvage - If something has sunk into the murky depths of the many waters of Seattle, Clyde is almost always able to find it and bring it back.
  • Goods - Need a little something extra? Elias grows or can find every type of Goblin Fruit you've ever heard of...and some kinds you never would've feared to exist.

Strangely, the Stingrays have started getting clients from outside the Changeling community. Normal humans have noted the more obvious activities of the Motley, and word has spread. The Stingrays have a good reputation in their community, and offer the same deal with their human clients as they do with the fae: a favor for a favor, always.

Rumors

  • The Georgetown Stingrays sometimes take on non-Changeling, non-human clients. According to various rumors, they've worked with a group of Hedge-creatures suing a Goblin Market, some vampires in need of transport, a mage looking for a sunken treasure in the Sound, a trio of zombies trying to escape their master, and who knows what else.
  • The Stingrays are bound by an Oath to guard the world against their house, and that is their primary purpose. The gateways into the Hedge stand wide open inside its walls, and the Hedge is desperately trying to spread into the real world. The Stingrays are there to stop it.
  • Valanga's room is deep in the bedrock under the house, and she's found something living down there...
  • Clyde once caught a fish in the Duwamish longer than an RV, with teeth made of angle-iron. It tasted like chicken.
  • The Dock has a bottomless pit. Where it leads, no one knows...
  • The Stingrays owe a favor to someone, and are dreading the day it comes due.
