Gwyneira

Name: Gwyneira Blythe
Alias(es): Gwyn, Gwynnie
Title: Decurion of the 1st Century of The Praesidium

Location: Florida
Apparent Age: 18, though she is often mistaken for younger

Seeming: Elemental
Kith: Manikin/Metalflesh
Court: Summer Court

Motley: The Broken

Keeper: The Princess Marionettiste

Virtue: Justice
Vice: Wrath

Mask: Gwyn has pale skin, blond hair curled into ringlets that reach just past her shoulders, and bright blue eyes. She is very small and delicate looking, seeming almost breakable at first glance. She speaks in a soft, childlike voice.

Mien: Under her Mask, Gwyn has the look of a classic porcelain doll. Pale skin, rosy cheeks, bowed lips, and glass-bright eyes of startling blue. Her hair has the look of a traditional synthetic doll wig and her skin looks hard, as if it were made of porcelain.

The Hedge: The reaction of the Hedge to Gwyn's Wyrd is for the brambles and thorns to become covered in a veneer of porcelain, becoming brittle and shattering easily as she passes by.

Mantle: The hot, dry heat of a kiln radiates around her, causing slight distortions as if looking at a mirage.

Personality: Some say she's crazy, others say she's creepy, but Gwyn is the epitome of the adorable, giggly little girl. She seems optimistic, naive, and eternally happy--sometimes annoyingly so. However, she has her moments where things seem to set her off and her attitude makes a sudden (and shocking) change. Adorable little Gwyn becomes a loud, cussing hellion threatening to harm anyone doing what she considers wrong.

History

Fairy tales were not my escape from reality as a child; rather, they were my reality -- for mine was a world in which good and evil were not abstract concepts, and like fairy-tale heroines, no magic would save me unless I had the wit and heart and courage to use it wisely. - Terri Windling

Background
Gwyn remembers very little of her life before being taken into Arcadia. The faces of her parents; the joy of playing hopscotch, jump rope, and hide-and-seek; the wonderment of traveling; and the big house with the sprawling back yard where she used to play all day long are some of her clearest memories. A time when she was loved, she was happy, and she was carefree. But that time is now passed, never to return. Stolen. By Her. The cruel devil-child that had been her tormentor.

Gwyn's time with the Fae is also a blur. Pain, anger, and a sense of duty to her Keeper fill her mind when she thinks of that place. And guilt, as well. For the pain she had brought to others like herself, forced into servitude on the whims of a being they could never understand, for those left behind when she made her escape. But anger, bright and burning, gives her a sense of purpose; the protection and sense of duty once reserved for her Keeper are now directed toward other changelings.

The only thing absolutely clear in Gwyn's mind is the day she seemed to wake up from a trance that had kept her in the thrall of her Keeper for what seemed like an eternity. She had been in a room scattered with broken dolls; dolls that, on closer inspection, were not dolls at all but other girls like herself. They sat, glass eyes staring off into nothingness, with missing hands, shattered faces, and cracked limbs. A few of the dolls in the room were not broken themselves but working to repair the other dolls. Looking down at herself, Gwyn saw her own arm seemed to be cracked. The vague memories of her life before had seemed to come to her and she had been determined to leave. But she would not leave all these other girls behind. So she tried to wake them, using her own memories to jog their own. Some woke and were so afraid of her they ran off. When she could get no others, save one, to wake and come with her, she escaped.

It was suspiciously easy to leave the Keeper's palace, with convenient hidden staircases and no guards standing duty. Perhaps it was because their Keeper rarely paid attention to her broken toys. They ran into the Hedge, thorns scraping her porcelain skin, tearing at her clothes and catching in her hair. Gwyn remembered defending them against Hedge beasts trying to stop their escape. The sword strapped to her back felt like second nature in her hands and she realized her love of battle, of defending those unable to defend themselves.

Upon stepping through to the other side of the Hedge, Gwyn's young, doll-like features took the appearance of a pale-skinned teenager, the crack in her arm suddenly bloomed with pain. She met those who would become her Motley: Storm, Jandori, and Dog. And she found her calling in the Summer Court where others like her, burning with anger against the Fae, could work together to fight against them. Her delicate, breakable façade works as an advantage, causing others to underestimate her strength. Gwyn does best in contests of swordsmanship and martial arts. Those that do not follow her own code of morals and ethics, no matter if they are of her own Court or not, can find themselves on the wrong side of an ardent and merciless opponent. Her surprising wrath often works to her advantage in these situations.
