Overview

This book is in the possession of Hawthorne, a Woodblood Elemental that resides in San Antonio, Texas. A scholar of Ethnobotany by trade prior to his abduction and transformation into a Changeling, Hawthorne is attempting to codify the cultural and medicinal plantlife that resides within The Hedge.


Physical description: A rather large, leather bound book with reinforced brass corners on the front and back cover. The book is held shut with a simple but large brass lock attached at the mid point of the book opposite from the spine. In flaked gold leaf, on both the front cover and along the spine is printed the words Hedge Herbology in large flowing script. The contents are hand written and contain entries for various plant life that Hawthorne has encountered during his time spent studying the indigenous plants of The Hedge. The entries are in alphabetical order.

  • Amaranthine - A small red fruit capable of healing Changelings when ingested.
  • Beastnip - A plant with calming qualities rumored to have some sway over felines.
  • Blushberry - A small, sweet, pink fruit with healing properties.
  • Buglewort - A fragrant, beautiful blossom with a caffeine kick.
  • Coupnettle - A delicate, leafy plant used to brew tea that settles the nerves and restores will.
  • Dream-A-Drupe - An intoxicating purple citrus fruit with healing properties.
  • Fear Gortach - Hungry grass used by the Gentry to deter escape attempts by Changelings.
  • Gallowsroot - A noose-like Oddment capable of being used to strangle another.
  • Hedge Thorn - The omnipresent and evergreen vegitation that comprises most of the Hedge.
  • Hellbore - A warm and evergreen plant capable of fighting of the cold.
  • Hog Eye - An Oddment found in the Hedge Mire that renders aid in Lockpicking.
  • Jarmyn - For the night owl Changeling that needs to stay up all night.
  • Jennystones - The rotting teeth, left beind by folk legend, Jenny Greenteeth.
  • Murmurleaf - A curly leafed plant with vibrant healing blossoms.
  • Nightcap - A soothing blossom when diluted and used in moderation.
  • Pitt Moss - A pungent and slightly bitter seasoning used by the Gentry.
  • Promise Leaves - A transmutable Oddment capable of extending the duration of a Contract.
  • Stabapple - A delicious fruit capable of arming a Changeling in a pinch.
