Summary
The Hellfire Club seems to have sprung up overnight but claims to have a colorful history dating back to the days of Sir Francis Dashwood and his Society of Dilettanti. The Club seems to be founded on the principles of wearing away at the moralities commonly accepted by society presumably to be replaced with something else. Of course these could just be fancy words to give some cover to a group of selfish libertines out only to please themselves. The secretive nature combined with the wild rumors circling it, some too fantastical to be believed make it hard to get a true image of what exactly goes on within the Club. Everything from licentious parties involving both the local human and changeling populations to dark orgies complete with the defilement of an altar has been attributed to the Club members. It's not only wild rumors that cloak the Club in mystery. Their processes are byzantine to say the least. Everything they do seems to be steeped in ritual, both mystical and otherwise. None know, possibly including the Club members themselves just how many of the rules and rituals are fake, intended as nothing more than an obfuscation for the Club's true purposes.
Positions
The Club's inner works are as shrouded in mystery as anything else about it. The only things non-members have to go on are rumors. It's said that full blown members take their titles from the pieces of a chess board but it's possible these titles are constantly changing within the Club in some complex and bizarre dance of ascension and demotion. Ask the same Club member their title on two different nights and you may get three different answers. One position that seems to never be claimed is that of the King. It's unknown who the leader of the Hellfire Club is possibly even to the members themselves.
