Hush moved along the narrow aisle between the whirling walls of rotating gears like a shadow of a shadow; his face expressionless, hands upon the well worn hilts of his blades. As he traveled, other shadows detached from supports and braces along his path, Darkling's falling in behind him. The heart of the machine beat within his breast, a second pulse complementary to his own. The thunderous sounds were like music to his ears … like the great beast speaking to him. It told him that all was not well … something ailed it … something that would make it worse than ill … something that would make it inefficient.
As was his purpose, he sought to remove the offending part so that others could replace it with a new, properly functioning one. Despite his size, he navigated The Machine like his feet had wings: swift, silent and confident. His steel hand rose, clenching into a fist and then snapping open. The Darkling’s disappeared into the nooks and crannies of the Machine as if they had never been. Duma appeared at Hush’s side, her hands communicating volumes. Hush always verified information provided to him on malfunctioning parts. Almost always. Duma was always right and rechecking her work was inefficient. With a running leap, Hush pulled himself onto a support, followed nimbly by Duma. The two worked their way through the Machine’s spinning gears and swinging parts as if they were one with it … in a way they were. Crouching down, two pairs of eyes watched a Wizened below. He stood near a female, whispering quietly to her. A small cloud crossed Hush’s face; speaking was not allowed. The Machine spoke, the workers listened. The Machinist spoke and the Machine listened. Worker speaking to worker was inefficient.
The Wizened hugged the female tightly and picked up a cloth filled with what were no doubt his possessions. One has no need of possessions; the Machinist provides what one needs to do their function. Personal desires and possessions took one’s mind from their function, making one inefficient. Hush shook his head. Sometimes malfunctioning parts affect those around them, causing those to malfunction as well. Without looking up, Hush raised his hand, pointing to the female and then to his eyes. A Darkling, crouched above him unseen separated from the shadows and followed her as she left. Hush and Duma followed the Wizened. Once he reached the corner and left the sight of the workers assigned to that section, they dropped behind him. There would be another worker at his station next shift. His fellows did not need to know what became of him ... that would be inefficient.
Overview
Alias(es): Nacht und Nebel, The Machinist's
Real Name: Unknown.
Location: New York City
Age: Apparant age: Early 40s. Actual age: Unknown
Seeming: Elemental
Kith: Manikin
Court: Winter Court
Concept: The Night and the Fog
Appearance (Mask):
When you notice him, Hush is a large man who seems to go out of his way to be small. It is almost as if he seeks to fold in on himself and in doing so, escape your attention. He dresses with utility in mind over style; sticking to cargo pants, tee shirts and work boots. Hush has a way about him that indicates a simplicity of mind or comfort in his own skin and the city around him ... or perhaps both.
Constantly avoiding eye contact, he is easy to overlook or simply forget about. Tales from the 'other side' tell that when he does focus his attention on something, it is a very bad thing indeed.
Appearance (Mein):
Hush appears like a clockwork man made of bronze and steel. His right hand is made of steel and his left of bronze. Even when looking directly at him, his form seems washed out and dull, almost as if it were an old fashioned sepia picture. Snowflakes flicker at the corner of your perception, just out of the range of your vision. Often one can see themselves or their surroundings reflected in his metallic skin, twisted into forms that defy their source. At times, he seems to breathe and others he remains completly motionless; but if one listens carefully and everything is still as a snow driven night, one can hear two hearts beating, one over top of the other. When moved to action, his motions are smooth and fluid, having the suddeness of finely tuned machine.
Character Livejournal: None
History
Basic Timeline: Pending
Current Activities: Hush seems to live on the streets of New York City, appearing to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Often he can be found sitting on an old milk crate in the park or outside the bodega in which Duma works just watching the traffic, both mechanical and organic. He has been seen in the Funeral Home in which Duma and "The Silver Dragon" dwell; but it is unsure whether he lives there or simply is a frequent visitor.
Merit Details: Hush is a high mantle Winter Court changeling; but has never shown any interest in either politics or authority.
Background: Hush's purpose within the Machine was to serve The Machinist, removing 'malfunctioning organic components' so they could be replaced and not cause the components near them to also malfunction. After he escaped, he seemed lost and devoid of purpose for many years; but recently has appeared to come to grips with something inside himself.

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: I don't murder children.
The Operative: I do. If I have to.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Why? Do you even know why they sent you?
The Operative: It's not my place to ask. I believe in something greater than myself. A better world. A world without sin.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: So me and mine gotta lay down and die ... so you can live in your better world?
The Operative: I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there ... any more than there is for you. Malcolm ... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.

I know you well enough to tell you've got your reasons
That's not the kind of code you're inclined to break
Some things unknown are best left alone forever
And if a vow is what it takes
Haven't you paid for your mistakes
After the moment passes
And the impulse disappears
You can still hold back
Because you don't crack very easily
It's a time honored resolution
Because the danger is always near
It's with you now
But that ain't how it was supposed to be
And it's hard to believe after all these years
That it still gives you pain and it still brings tears
And you feel like a fool
Because in spite of your rules
You've got a memory
But you can't talk about it
Because you're following a code of silence
You're never gonna to lose the anger
You just deal with it a different way
But you can't talk about it
And isn't that a kind of madness
To be living by a code of silence
When you've really got a lot to say

Rumors
- Hush once worked for a Fae called simply The Machinist, hunting and spiriting off troublemakers and those seeking escape.
- Hush and Duma have a very strange almost symbiotic relationship.
- If Hush meets your eyes, he has decided to kill you.
- After bringing Duma through the Hedge, Hush tried to return. It required 3 changelings to prevent him from reentering the Hedge.
- ... it only took one whispered word from Duma.
- After Laurel Thorn came through the Hedge, Hush would sit next to her neither saying a word nor even looking at her. This aided in her adjustment ... whether she found it comforting or adjusted to avoid these creepy scenes is up for debate.
- Hush is actually Duma's son, conceived by a liason between herself and The Machinist.
- Hush almost strangled a fellow changeling for stealing a french fry from the carton he was eating out of at a recent gathering. He never actually even looked at her while he was doing it. Later, he explained that one should not steal.
- Hush had a very public disagreement with Saga an hour before the Summer King of Boston was slain with Cold Iron.
