559 AD Brude destroys an army of Scots in the Great Glen moving to attack Inverness
580 AD St Columba visit's King Brude at Craig Phadrig, to the west of modern Inverness overlooking the Beauly Firth
584 AD Brude dies

1040 AD Macbeth - Mac Bethad mac Findláich - killed King Duncan - Donnchad mac Crínáin - at his Inverness Castle
1070 AD Malcolm III destroys Inverness Castle

1179 AD Inverness Created a Royal Burgh, and new Castle was constructed
1180 AD King William the Lion gave Inverness 4 Charters of rights for the Townspeople, also construction of a ditch and a wooden stockade

1400 AD Reconstruction of the Castle of Inverness
1411 AD Donald, Lord of the Isles burns part of the Town
1428 AD Lord of the Isles is arrested by the King, and after his release he attacked Inverness and partly destroyed it.

16th Century
1562 AD Mary Stuart refused entry to the Castle

1626 AD Earl of Moray in dispute with the Burgh Council

1652 AD to 1657 AD Inverness is under occupation by Cromwell’s forces and constructs a Citadel
1662 AD Cromwell’s Citadel is demolished, only the Clock tower remains

1668 AD Dunbar’s House (almshouses) built by Provost Alexander Dunbar using materials from the citadel.

this as murder. Most people think she is buried underneath the A9 road
somewhere. They know who did it but cannot prove it.
