Timeline

Not much is known about James Creed's life before being drug into the Hedge, only that he was the sibling of one other and grew up in the Sierra-Nevada's

2000: Returns from the Hedge in his Mountain Lion form and unaware to his former human lifestyle. James is most likely to be one of the few Mountain Lions to attack and kill 2 humans that year. James will spend the next year in this form.
2001: James is watching a family camping trip waiting for one member to wander away from the rest so he can have a decent for once. But when he sees the families 13 year old red head daughter step out of the tent James retracts from his bestial instincts and watches her out of curiosity rather than hunger. Later in the week when the family goes on a hike, the daughter gets separated from her family and attacked by another cougar and it is James that comes to her rescue and kills the second cougar. Luckily the daughter lives and thanks James and gives him a pat on the head that makes him realize that he isn't a beast at all but a man, James licks her hand and runs off. James finds a way to revert from his cougar state and returns to "society."
2002-2007: For the next 5 years James deals with the realization that he is neither beast nor man but something in-between. James also can't shake his lust for fighting and enrolls in an MMA gym and becomes and up-and-comer in the region.
Late 2007: Gillian Reed makes contact with James and explains the nature of what they both are and their differences. Gillian notices his prowess in battle and invites him to visit his "Captain" and see about joining his crew. As soon as Captain Squall sees James and his size he asks if he was here for the Man-at-Arms position, James doesn't exactly make sense of it until Squall shows them their "goods" (Treasure and Rum) and tells him about the fights they had to get in to get most of it. Needless to say James Creed was going to be the newest addition to the Hobgoblin's Waltz crew.

Rumors

Crushed someones skull because he shot James in the back... It would have been better if he shot him in the chest he might have lived, but the coward didn't show any courtesy at all.
