Overview

Alias(es): Kesper Cricketbane (fae name), Kevin Capers, Kesper Faebane

Real Name: Kevin Scvetlenko

Age: Looks about 24, abducted at age 15 in 1957.

Concept: Summer Court Propagandist.

Entitlement: Tolltaker Knight

Physical description: Kesper is small, and his hunched posture doesn't do much to expand his size any. He has wiry arms of sinewed muscle, the type that can lift little but tear much, made for long bouts of dexterous labor. He is in a constant state of slight motion; ask him to stop wringing his hands and his feet will start tapping. His hands pulse thick green veins when he is tense, which is often.

Relevant Mechanics: Pledge bound to the Cricketbane Legion.

Character Information

Known History

Basic Timeline: -1957: Kahss and Kesper are taken by Lord Neverbloom (of the Scorned) as punishment for mangling one of his clockwork soldiers.

-2005: Kahss breaks Kesper free from the Cricket Soldier Workshop. The two of them break numerous other Changelings from their bonds and escape the hedge.

-2006: Kesper and Kahss attempt to return to their old lives, only to find they are both legally dead, killed in a car crash with both of their parents in 1968. Kesper launches into a fit of depression after this, while Kahss is taken by the Tolltaker knights.

-2007: Kahss and Kesper set up the 3 Cent Copy Shop as Kesper breaks out of his funk and decides to take action. The Copy Shop serves as an outlet for Kesper's lithographs and to anchor Kahss to the human world. Kesper joins the Tolltakers in the middle of the year and becomes one of their key sources of advertisement on top of regular martial duties.

Background: Kesper was a mischievous kid. It took him a long time in Arcadia to realize that he was no more wicked then your average boy, and he did not deserve his fate at the hands of the Fae. He emerged from the workshop he was enslaved in filled with guilt and an aggressive desire to rage against what he had been forced to do. His hands, constantly itching to create works that serve the Gentry, become silenced when he uses them to tear down the clockwork he associated with them. He joined the Summer Court to control his anger, which he was never really that good at dealing with. While he's a bit of a hazard to everyone around him as a member of the Summer Court, anywhere else and his Clarity would be gone by now, lost in haze of broken springs, frayed wires and errant sparks.

Kesper tries to focus his efforts on making sure other do not lose part of themselves as he has, and is big on commitment. Lacking the regular rituals of adolescence and torn by the guilt of his fathers death, his ideals of manhood come more from books then real life. This does not make these ideals any less important to him, and he clings to them even in the face of reason and sympathy. Thankfully, Kesper is still the bookish kid Kevin was at heart, and is just as happy spreading posters warning Oathbreakers to leave the city as he is beating them into submission himself.

Motley

The Cricketbane Legion, with his brother, Kahss Faebane, Glain Emerald-hand, and Daniel Oakheart.

Allies

  • Tiki-toki Gremlins: A small horde of them, to whom he provides fresh, unused machines to destroy. They're loyal to the destruction he provides and not really to him in any way. He's not even sure if they can tell the difference between man and machine, just that man takes a bit longer to stop ticking when you remove a few parts.
  • Willie Pete: Willie saved Kespers life from a Loyalist ogre. He then prevented Kesper from killing the Ogre in cold blood, so while they are even, a bond has been formed on the field of war. Both being Wizened hasn't hurt either.
  • Ambrose Small: Ambrose knows the value of cash and the language of no nonsense business. With Kahss being less than communicative, a positive working relationship with Kesper was inevitable.

Enemies

  • Loyalists and soldiers of the Gentry known as The Scorned, though his time in Arcadia brought him to curse the name of Lord Neverbloom. He tends to destroy crickets on site due to their similarity to the clockwork soldiers he was forced to build and maintain.
  • Obediah Yule: Kesper finds Obediah's hoarding of knowledge selfish at best and dangerous to the freehold at worst. Kespers slightly communistic leanings lead him to believe that all knowledge should be free, and as a Wizened who talks to books from time to time, he knows that they wish to be read. Obediah knows that Kesper has a short attention span and is very opinionated on something he'll ignore the moment he gets it into his possession.
  • Evelyn Pierce: At first this was just Summer versus Winter Court tension, but upon hearing that she works for a rehabilitation centre for Lost, including Loyalists at times, he swore an Oath to see her life ruined until the next time her season draws near. He thinks she's a conflict-avoiding apologist with a martyr complex instead of a sense of self-awareness. She thinks he's an obnoxious right-wing zealot who is using rhetoric to justify his base aggressive tendencies. They're both probably right. The fact that he was abducted at age 14 and is still kind of nervous around females doesn't help matters anyway.

Character Inspirations

Gremlins from Joe Dante's classic film, obviously. Rumplestiltskin, Goblins from Warcraft series of video games. All world wide legends of tiny little people that mess with your stuff for no reason.

Soundtrack

"Free" by Powerman 5000, "Insects" by Oingo Boingo, "Revolution" by the Beatles, "Explosions" by Devo.

Quotes

  • "Making your borders smaller does not make them any more free."
  • "You deny the trappings of the weaker members of your court, yet you use all of their weaker arguments. Find your strength and then you can talk to me."
  • (answering phone at top of his lungs) "HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!???!!!"
  • "One day, he too, shall learn to collate. And answer the phone at appropriate volume. He's a good friend, even if his tiki tocks ate my iPod." - Glain Emerald-hand

Rumours

Kesper believes himself and his Motley to be Kung Fu masters. This is not the case. He attributes it to a lack of Scorpion style within the group.

The hammer that Kesper wields to destroy machines is the same hammer Strong Ben used to destroy the Clearinghouse.

Kesper despises the touch of Cold Iron on his hands.
