Character Information
Mask: Larka appears a very thin, beautiful, and athletic girl, giving one the impression of an olympic runner. At least until further investigation when her obvious limp would prove her no longer able to run as she used to. She is quiet and her face is in constant shift from a soft, burning anger, to deep and sorrowful sadness. Her unusually big brown eyes hold a measure of confusion along with pain and loss. At first glance you would think she could not hurt a fly, until something moves in the distance and those keen eyes target and focus like those of a true predator. She moves with an air of grace and nobility, until she remembers herself and sinks to a stance of submission and defeat. Her manner of dress changes regularly with her shifting moods; sometimes she makes the effort to appear well kept and elegant, but sometimes she just doesn't care and blue jeans, a t-shirt, and a good pair of runners are all she needs.
Mein: Larka's body, legs, and arms seem to be longer than they should be for her hight. Even her facial features are somewhat extended, but not unpleasing to the eye. The skin around her face lightens around her mouth, nose, and eyes making a definite mask-like pattern. The area on her palms and finger tips are thick and dark, like paw pads. Her legs are those of a canine ending with large powerful clawed feet. However, her left leg bends at an odd angle and doesn't move quite as it should. If not covered with cloth, nasty scars resembling the shapes of claws and teeth can be seen on her knee and thigh. The dark hair around her face falls to her shoulders like two silky ears and a lush plume tail wags ever so slightly behind her. If you manage to catch a rare glimpse of a smile (for she almost never smiles), long powerful canines protrude from her otherwise non-threating mouth.

Before the Leash
Larka can’t remember much about her life before being taken by her Master, only that it was lonely and miserable. The truth is that she was a rather homely girl, and an orphan to boot. Her real name has long been lost to the thorns, but she has been known to turn her head with vague recognition at the sound of “Jenny”. While a very quiet girl, she was gentle and kind to everyone; even though her heart burned with anger and anguish that no one wanted her. Her life consisted of moving from foster home to foster home. Mostly treated well, she was never adopted by any of these families leaving her heart feeling very empty. One family came close to adopting her but instead chose another girl instead. Larka always knew it was because the other girl was prettier than her. The only thing that helped take her mind away from her rejection was running. She LOVED to run. She was also an animal lover, dogs especially.
Collared
This made it easy for The Lure Master to convince her to follow him into the Hedge one day with the promise of love, affection, and lots of hounds to care for. His father like demeanor and soft gentle way of speaking won out over her scene of concern for her safety. She was indeed well looked after and lavished with affection. She was sent to run the hounds everyday, to help keep them in shape for the hunt and races. Soon, she could keep up with the best of them by running on all fours. Slowly she began to resemble the hounds which she ran with. Had she not been so eager to keep his adoration, she would have noticed her rising want to run down quarry in order to further please her Keeper. Her Master was impressed and began to favor her over all others. Eventually the transformation was complete, but Larka would not have changed it for the world, now being a creature of great beauty and grace. Larka continued to run for her master both in the field and on the track, unstoppable in her quest to catch whatever she was sent after for the sheer pleasure of a pat or touch from her keeper in recognition of her accomplishments. After being declared unbeatable by several fellow racemen, she was given a gold collar adorned with gems of great value by her Master. The Lure Master was indeed the object of her endless and devout loyalty.
Abandoned
The Lure Master has many rivals. Never being one to turn down a challenge, or loose one, her master accepted a trial by hunt of the quality of his hounds against another well known Huntsman’s hounds. The prey was released and all hounds were slipped to catch the unfortunate changeling who was running for life and limb. Though mighty and vicious as the beasts of nightmares, the rivals hounds were unable to keep up with the speed and drive of the Raceman’s runners; Larka in the lead. Larka and her pack easily overtook the poor changeling quarry and held him at bay, nipping excitedly at his hide until their master could retrieve it. They were silent in their lapping of blood when the rival hounds approached, their mouths salivating with desire for the kill. Unwilling to give up their prize, a fight broke out between the dogs. Out of breath and tired from their relentless run, the Runnerswift hounds were taken out one by one by the more powerful and cruel Hunterhearts. Not wanting to disappoint her Lord and Master, Larka fought with a tenacity never before reached. At last she was grabbed by sharp teeth cutting into the soft flesh of her thigh and knee. Had their master not called them off she would have been ravished by the blood thirsty rivals. The Horned one just laughed a cruel laugh and took the quarry as his own. It was long before her keeper came upon the scene of violence. Her heart rose with his arrival, but something was wrong. He was angry, no furious. His once kind and loving voice turned to almost the hiss of a thousand snakes as he dismounted his steed and came towards her. She would never have expected what came next, given her previous treatment. Her Master punished her with kicks, beatings from his cane, and finally he cast her into the dark woods leaving her to die…alone.
Follow the white rabbit
Dejected, half starved, and surviving on pure instinct, Larka gave chase when she caught sight of food. Ignoring the pain in her leg, she flew after the rabbit changeling that led her into the thick hedge and into a strange new world. Where was the grass? Where was the woods and fields? This was a frightening place of walls and hard floors. But most frightening were the people. People she didn't know. Where was her Master? The people brought her food, but she was hesitant to take it. Slowly, she crept forward to take it from their hands. Slowly, she allowed one or two of them to touch her. A beautiful dancer with soft hands and a kind voice finally won her trust. Now the dancer and her friends are trying to show Larka what it is to be something else. They have given her food, water, shelter, and affection; she will protect them with her life.
