History of the Freehold

Ever since the Freehold of Magnolia Chateau has stood, there has been a strong court presence. Since anyone can remember, every summer the Summer Court has reigned, with tournaments and Knights speckling their retinue. The fall sees the Autumn Court, with their court magicians and scholars. The wintertime brings the Winter Court with their subtle misdirections and enigmatic Winter Formal. Spring sees the Spring Court with their courtesans and players. The traditions are well known, and most follow them with zeal. The oldest tradition is that whomever hold the crown of their Court and leads the Freehold makes rules and regulations for their months of service. Due to the nature of the rotating court, it is somewhat hard to keep up with the laws of the land for outsiders. This is an unfortunate side effect, but one that doesn’t seem to discourage the momentum of activity.

In the recent court nights, a tragedy has beset Magnolia Chateau. Nearing the end of the Summer Court’s reign, the Autumn Court divined that a terrible time would befall all. They recognized that it would be centered on the Summer Court’s Crown holder, Leviegn Gesteaux, who had an adopted daughter. The daughter would go missing, and Leviegn would try to return to Arcadia. In light of this, the Autumn Court’s leader, Yuri Redwood, decided to overthrow the Summer Court weeks before the equinox. Leviegn’s daughter did indeed go missing, and Leviegn set out into the Hedge on a mad mission to find her. The other Courts set out to find and stop Leviegn, and a battle between the Summer Court and the others ensued. Many of the Autumn court lost their lives due to breaking their Pledges to Magnolia Chateau, and the Courts therein. Many of the Summer Court lost their lives defending Leviegn, and many others lost their lives just entering the Hedge during this troubled time. A few survivors recall a Wild Hunt and pray for those missing. Now the Courts are in shambles, and those few remaining must pick up the pieces and move on.
