Note: Like most characters up here, she's pending a few approvals.

Overview

Alias(es): Lady Silver, Morgan Silver, Morgan, Mother

Real Name: People keep guessing. It's getting amusing.

Age: Her oldest student is at least in his thirties. So where does that put her?

Concept: Battle Mother.

Entitlement: None she's spoken of.

Freehold: The Asylum at the Mid-Land Crossroads

Physical description: Tall and lithe, she certainly appears to be out of her twenties, maybe even thirties but age has only made her more lovely. Long red hair, often kept back in a braid, eyes as smooth and gray as a lake on a cloudy day. In her Changeling mein, however, her entire body shimmers with a silvery wetness, almost like a sculpture made of water. She typically dresses in loose, flowing clothing. Not lose enough to get a good grip on, but enough for her movements to be unrestricted. She typically dresses in white or cool colors with a dash of bright warm colors.

Relevant Mechanics: A very high Wyrd, master of swords.

Keeper: "The warlord was a psychotic maniac who thought himself some sort of mythical general. But he's just a monster, like the rest of them."

Morgan Silver has been around mid-Michigan since, roughly, the 1960s--at least 1969. Doctor Faust has, from time to time, told the story of what exactly he said--"Cackled, dear doctor."--at her when the US put a man on the moon. She does travel, but is almost never away from Michigan for long.

When she does travel, she typically stays near a large body of water, saying that it reminds her of home. Indeed, the first thing she does when arriving in a town to stay for long is remove her shoes and walk down to the edge of the water. She dips her toes in and stares.

She's sometimes referred to as "Lady Silver," and as often by her students as "Mother," or "Mother Silver" sometimes sarcastically, but somehow it always rings true. She is at the same time gentle and extraordinarily hard on her students. She will not tolerate someone losing their temper in training //or// battle, "Lose your temper, you lose your head!"--followed by bruises/welts/a concussion.

This leaves some with varying degrees of resentment, but most realize that she is only hard on them because she cares for them so much. They may end up covered with muscles screaming, laden with bruises, welts and cuts--but she will gently (even lovingly) clean and wrap them herself. She will never administer what she herself is unwilling to take, something she will admit to, and something she proscribes for those who wish to teach.

A few may have witnessed her at a time when she loses a student or trainee. She's known to temper her rage, and finish the fight without mercy but also without spite and then quietly seclude herself. Though, there is a rumor of one who snuck into her hollow to watch her, weeping and raging at herself for not being hard enough on them. Some say that's when she leaves, wandering the country for weeks at a time.

The exercises she runs and the beatings she unleashes from time to time are never spiteful, never angrily administered, but purposeful, meant to drive a student to the very edge. The only way to learn, she insists, is to stretch yourself, to exhaust and push yourself to the boundaries of skill, the limits of your abilities--and go further.

She does teach both brawl and firearms, as well as parkour--but her real area of expertise is with weaponry. While she prefers sword and spear, and is highly proficient in fighting with a weapon in both hands, she will drill and teach how to properly utilize anything at hand--the art of improvisation.

After all, "You must be ready."

Basic Timeline:

  • Early to mid 20th Century: A girl disappears from the shores of Lake Erie. Her family gives her up for dead, until she turns up under the docks, drowned. Or so they thought.
  • 1950-70: Morgan escapes, fights her way through the hedge. Rumor has it that she either slew or severely wounded her Keeper.

Current Activities: Mentoring young Changelings, especially those recently escaped from Faerie. She's known for teaching those from other Courts, especially the Spring Court, how to defend themselves.

Merit Details:

Background: Morgan rarely speaks in detail about her time in Faerie. She has spoken of the fact that she was a living figure of water, set to watch the battles that the mad Gentry Keeper dreamed up to keep himself amused.

  • "If you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it'll spread over into the rest of your life. It'll spread over into your work, into your mortality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." --Bruce Lee
  • "Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own." --Bruce Lee
  • "Wrath is not steel, which breaks under stress, it is water. Water moves where it can, and seeps into the form best suited for it." --Morgan Silver, on the key emotion of the Summer Court.
  • "There is a reason why water claims so many lives. Water is still, water is calm. Water waits. It waits for just the right moment and it annihilates everything, washes clean. We seek this state, we seek this perfect catharsis--a perfect release." --Morgan Silver, to a newly escaped student.
