Character Information
Known History
It is a foggy night, in a small town in Germany. The stars are the only thing lighting up the night sky. In the distance faint music can be heard. The sound of a flute, lightly dancing across the air. Painting a picture, painting a lullaby. The Image of a sweet far off land, where magic awaits whichever boy or girl should go. It's tempting, too tempting, and many children fallow the melody. We have all heard the fairy tale, made famous by the Grimm brothers, but what if I was to tell you a different story? After all every fairytale is based off of some truth.
Yes, their was a person with a flute, was it me you ask? Of course not. I was one of the children, minding my own business. My mother was making brotworst in the kitchen; my father had not come home from work in the woods yet. I was on the porch, practicing my violin when I heard the music. I was curious, and so I fallowed the sound, chasing it into the woods.
I fallowed to the land of promises the land of dreams, the land of hopes. A land I never found. For as I ran through the woods, they began to twist and turn. What once sounded like such beautiful music suddenly became dark. The forest covered the sky, and the stars seemed to vanish from my sight. I grew scared, and lost. Then I saw him, the pied piper. He had his hood up, but the eyes were glowing, as he seemed to pierce into my soul.
"You have been bad little child, you have wondered to far from home." Their was a sadness in his voice. He took me by my hand and led me away.
That was the last time I saw my family, or the world with the stars in the sky. The Pied Piper was not a keeper, just another one like us, forced to lure children away from their homes. However the keeper grew sick of the Piper, and he was replaced by me, Nachtmusik, a name fitting for what I became.
Equipped with solely my violin, I was forced to play the songs children hear in the night. The music to lure them out of their beds. The Night music, en kleine nachtmusik. At first I rebelled, like all do. I fought my keeper, I fought my role. But then I simply became the instrument for him. Bent to his will, bent to his need, my screams filling the night like a symphony of pain.
Eventually I stopped trying, stopped fighting and took up my role. Dancing through the night, hiding from eyes, playing my sad tunes, knowing inside what I was truly doing. Over time my songs became darker, sadder. Scarring away the children instead of luring them. One night I could not take it anymore and when sent out, I did not return. I ran and ran and ran. I came out in a strange land. Far from my homeland of Germany. Far from the life I knew. Did I really get away? I doubt it. I am sure I am being watched. Only allowed to taste freedom, so I can better play the songs to warm the hearts, the songs of hope, that I have long since forgotten how to play.
