Location: Rome, Georgia

Apparent Age: 20

Concept: Clockwork dancer rebuilt into fighting machine

Court: Winter

Virtue: Fortitude

Vice: Envy

Relevant Mechanics: Striking Looks 2

-= The Dancer's Smile: Face of the Machine =-

Mein: Dispite his penchant for wearing darker colors and his constant adornment of chains, he keeps a soft expression with his brilliant blue eyes ever-watchful. His skin has a luster and sheen to it that appears well-polished and metallic glimmer. He often wears a full-length jacket or concealing clothing to obscure his mechanical physiology. His movements have a mechanized feel to them when he is 'being himself,' and small, occasional arcs of electricity jumps across his metallic accoutrements.

Masque: Young, vibrant, and healthy. His features are sleek and precise, and his hair and eyes are much like they are in his Mein. Slender and tall, with calculated motions and a gaze that seems to take in everything.

-= From the Garden of Neverwhere: Known History =-

 Information here is commonly known.

One day after a heavy snow, Noh was found battered and worn in the hedge by Captain Adonis Von Catterwaul and with his assistance, Noh managed to complete escape into the world of the humans. Since then, he has moved to live with the motley of the Clocktower and has been coming and going through the interactions with the local Lost. Little is known of his history before he left the hedge, and he says he has shared that he has no memory of his time before or his True Name. The solemn, quiet mechanical Lost has remained much of a mystery to date.

-= Who is the Maker? Background =-

Information in the section is not readily known

Noh Namé, was taken at a young age by the Red Queen’s servants to serve in her court, for she did so love how beautiful he and his voice was. Under her cruel scrutiny, Rough had to be perfect in his performances for the great queen at the cost of his head. Beaten and battered even when keeping her favor, he kept on going. One day the boy knew he would escape and return home to his family and to once again smell the true scent of flowers, as this land had mockeries that often dripped with fresh paint. One day the queen had a thought: She decided she wanted a music box. Not just any music box, though, this one must be the greatest ever made. To make even grander, she decided to have several of her favored entertainers to be built into the machine. How else could they dance a new dance every time? Rough was the first to be taken. Piece-by-agonizing-piece, he was taken apart. The pain threatening to send him to the blackness of unconsciousness, but it nor death would come. Even when they did remove his head and even his heart – the image of it beating as they drew it from him still haunts him to this day – he lived on through the torment. Through it all, he held on, for he had to be strong through his pain so that he could return to his family and tell them he was still alive… But… Was he anymore..?

The blackness finally came towards the end, as they tired of his cries of agony and silenced him. Awaking an unknown time later, he found himself bound in, as he would come to know, the grand music box. That was his home now. He was no longer Rough Lynn. He forgot himself to the music and the dance, performing for any who would come to the Queen’s palace to see the wonders she had promised would shock them with their splendor. Humiliated and hardly working of his own accord, Noh wished so hard to cry. Just a single tear was all he wanted. Over time, he and the other pieces taught themselves to fix their home and their bodies, as the Queen’s attention changed faster than the colors of the roses. Despite their diligence in their upkeep, the clockwork performers could not prepare what came in that horrible night.

First, came the flames - soaring through the air and crashing into the gardens, setting them ablaze. Cries of war tore through the air over the confusion of the Red Queen’s servants. Her soldiers were no match for the burning siege that tore into her Palace in moments. The façade of beauty torn away with any semblance of order she had established in this maddened world of cards and roses. The brutish soldiers attacked bush and paper defender alike, destroying everything in their path. In the horror, Noh tore himself free of their mechanisms and took up a fallen soldier’s spear, standing to protect his only friends he knew.

There stood the tall, and horrifyingly beautiful prince. Toned in grey and black, the only colors that shone on him were the flame-lights that danced on his armor and the burning desire in his eyes. The tiny figure of metal and gears was laughable at best with his broken body and slender spear. A normally encouraged spirit, but he stood against the Grey Prince, and for that he must be punished. With ease and sadistic joy, the powerful grey figure struck down the clockwork toy and set to destroying that which it had tried to protect. Noh’s last memories of that night were his friends being beaten and torn from their prison. Not the sort of release from that machine he had had in mind…

The next he knew, there was a bustle all around him, and an inability to move. The hollow pain wracked his heart, as he recalled the horror of that night so long ago. Reliving it all over in this shop of gears and fire and metal. Maddening creatures took him apart piece by piece, replacing his body once again for a new purpose. The torment wracked his figure, memories flooding back and tearing at his metallic flesh and cables and gears. Once again at the end the darkness finally came and gave him a moment of peace. Only to be awoken again to the clash of metal and roar of beasts.

He had been rebuilt by the Grey Prince to be a machine of graceful death. Fluid and swift, a silver engine of combat. He was beaten into learning to defend himself by slaying those that stood to kill him. Every time he struck one down, he longed for that which was taken from him long ago: The smiling faces of his family, the warmth of their arms around him… The tears that he could no longer shed for the dead.

One day, the Prince was gone to lay siege to a castle, and Noh had been forgotten in his bonds deep in the dungeon. From the wanton neglect his brutish keepers showed, his clasps had come weakened, and he tore himself free. He then did what he had been built to do: He fought. Laying siege to the fortress from inside-out, he bested the clumsy guards left as watchers and made his way into the wilds to seek familiar lands. After a long trek, he found the grove he first saw on the edge of the Red Queen’s kingdom. Following his rusted memories through the shadowed wood rife with thorns and eerie sounds, he eventually is found by a wounded soldier he had not fully killed from the Grey Fortress. Standing there, only a short way from his freedom, he faced down the one thing barring him from once again seeing the lands he knew so long ago. Keeping him from reaching his humanity and waking from this nightmare. Their clash resounded through the forest, and they each battered the other mercilessly for some time. Finally, Noh’s wit and agility won out over the monstrous soldier’s strength, and it collapsed in the snow and withered leaves. The clockwork dancer then collapsed against a tree and shut his eyes for a moment. Before the darkness set in once more, he saw a figure moving towards him warily. That was when he met the Great captain Adonis Von Catterwaul and found his way into yet another dream, but this one is closer to those he left behind.

Noh Namé has since found refuge and ties with the Court of Winter. Seeking others who have felt the sorrow of loss, and finding a second manikin who has a body of glass, he feels they can best relate. Nor do they interrogate him on his past. Through realizing his sorrow and helping others with theirs, he feels he can show them the hope for their better tomorrow. Presently he is trying to establish an understanding of the way the world works, and trying to seek the pieces of his humanity he lost. Studying and mimicking others, he tries to find what it is that makes them who they are and the hidden key that unlocks what he sees to be their human nature. Finally in the world of humans, he feels a bit out-of-touch, and tries his best to interact with them, but often obscures who he is, working somewhat indirectly to help others move through their troubles. His own pain always at the edges of his mind, he sees his trials and his body as scars to the horrors that await just on the other side of the hedge. While he keeps chains as a mockery of his failed imprisonment, he strives to never be bound again, and music boxes bring back the memories of his torment and his longing for his friends. Though they may be lost to the battle, he still seeks to find any word of them should they have managed to survive.
