Overview
Alias(es): Moss
Registered Mortal Name: Obadiah Lawson Ravenhill
Age: 50+ or 30+ depending on how you measure it...
Concept: Questor's Eternal Bodyguard
Entitlement:
Physical description: A little over seven feet tall and solidly built, Obadiah is by some standards a rather normal-looking Ogre... at least until he smiles or grimaces. In place of human teeth, he has a maw of fangs, and his jaw doesn't move quite right... as if it could open further than it ought to be able to. His eyes are also rather odd - a touch too large, and very intense. He is usually adorned with sturdy chains, and often wears 17th-century style half-plate.
His mask presents him as tall and broad-shouldered, but not massive, with a markedly shy demeanour and a tendency to blend into the background. Balding and bespectacled, he looks to be somewhere in his thirties.
Notes: Obadiah is able to help newly-emerged Lost seeking a place in mortal society. He's able to arrange for aid from homeless charities, set up mental and physical health-checks, and put people on the bottom rung of human society. He's not, however, able to provide perfect or complete new identities. Also, as the character of the ST of Edinburgh, he will mysteriously remain incapable of active involvement in local plots in the city for as long as I am OOCly running the game.
Character Information
Known History
Basic Timeline:
1972: Taken at age 16, shortly after commencing final year of secondary education at George Heriot's School in Edinburgh.
? Decades ?: Service as a man-hunter, guard and occasional pit-fighter in Arcadia. Often clashed with denizens of the Hedge, fellow prisoners, and rival hunting groups. Came to specialise in bringing back prey with barely a mark on it, fully alive and intact. Rapidly lost track of time, though periodic memories of former life kept resurfacing.
1987: During a clash between rival hunting parties roaming through the Arcadian edge of the Hedge, became separated from master and allies, and fled deeper into the Hedge to avoid capture by the rival group. Abruptly realised that this might be a "now or never" opportunity, and made an initially-blind bid for freedom. While fighting randomly through the Hedge (and away from pursuit), began to focus more on scattered images of past life - something to run towards, rather than away from. Eventual focus became a clear memory of a sunlit, non-hostile forest, remembered from childhood.
Emerged from the Hedge in Ettrick Forest, blundering into a small town later that night.
1987-91: A functionally-insane minor fixture of the small homeless community of the Borders, with occasional contact with local Raiding Clans (who had periodic use for an easily-directed labourer of immense strength) and mortal mental health services.
1991: Recovers enough self-awareness to seek out tuition and help, forging an association with the Summer court in hope of getting revenge upon his former master, and of being able to avoid ever again being taken advantage of by either mortals or Lost. Uses contacts among homeless charities to establish a mortal-world identity, taking on the name and role of a youth gone missing long before. Takes on minor labouring jobs, and works - intermittently - at attempting to rediscover lost skills and memories, including literacy.
Among the Lost, begins to find employment as a trod-warden, providing protection for merchants and other travellers passing between the Freeholds and raiding clans of Scotland.
1999: Acquires accreditation as a private eye, starting work with charitable contacts in trying to track down missing persons.
2000: Begins seriously questioning his focus upon anger, and starts openly offering services to those in need of a new identity and a place in the mortal world, attempting to hook them up with his contacts among charities.
2001: First contact with Ezekiel. Apparently inspired by the recently-escaped Wizened's vision for the future, Obadiah offers his services as a bodyguard.
While attempting to find goblin fruit near Tomnahurich, Obadiah stumbles across and rescues from a carnivorous portion of the Hedge a sentient hedge-beast. The two become friends, with each taking the other under his wing in some fashion.
Prompted partly by the fortuitous rescue of Bree and partly by the prospect of finding for the Lost a true place of refuge, Obadiah chooses to concentrate upon a desire for a better future, and the fostering of hope in others. Formally changing Court from Summer to Spring, he retains favourable connections with the former.
To present: Though no great shakes as a proselytiser, the Ogre does seem sincerely committed to his new ideals, and even pursues spiritual studies with some apparent success.
Current Activities: Trod-warden, caravan guard, and finder of mislaid people. In the mortal world, a registered private eye who specialises in missing person cases. Strong connections to charities have helped him to set up other Lost with new identities and mortal-world homes.
Merit Details: Giant. Court Goodwill (Summer) 1.
