Overview

From legends of the Valkyries to more modern Suffragists and Ladies’ Aid Societies, there have always been women willing to step forward onto the field of battle and fight for what is right. The Order of the Silver Ladies is fairly new, but they continue this long tradition.

History

The history of the Order is shrouded in mystery. All that is known to most is that a fairest named Eleanor Quinn went alone into the Hedge one day. She was not particularly fragile, but was not particularly powerful in combat. Her heart, though, was as strong as any warrior's. No one knows what she saw or did that day in the Hedge, but she returned to wearing the silver armor that is the hallmark of the order, and with a new sense of purpose. Eleanor Quinn called other Fairest like her, those who had the hearts to enter battle in defense of the helpless but were not doughty enough to survive, and formed a small sisterhood, ready to take the field and rescue mortals and changelings in need.

Titles

Lady, Silver Lady, Silver Sister or Sister Silver

Prerequisites

Female, Wyrd 3, Vainglory 4, Striking Looks (2) or (4), Intimidate 3, Clarity 7 or less, must agree to the Code of Conduct

Joining

A prospective Silver Lady must approach the Founder, Eleanor Quinn, and explain why she feels she is worthy to join the Order. Eleanor and others will question and examine her, and if she is found to be suitable, they will take her into the Hedge. Some candidates who enter the Hedge return as Silver Ladies, others do not. Not a one is willing to speak of what happened in the Hedge to those not of the Order.

Mein

The Silver Ladies are, in a word, intimidating. They carry themselves with the confidence of women who can take care of themselves and are used to seeing their enemies scatter at their approach. This does not mean they are arrogant, but they are confident. All of them are beautiful, but that beauty is reinforced with an underlying power that makes them more impressive than women who are merely pretty. Additionally, each always is wearing a silver bracelet on each wrist and a silver choker necklace.

Backgrounds

Those who join the Order of the Silver Ladies tend to be very refined and cultured. Nearly all are Fairest of various flavors, all are beauties, and all are intelligent enough to argue their case for acceptance. Beyond that, each has her own reasons for joining in the Order’s quest. None of them are terribly physical, though they all make a point of learning enough skills and contracts to defend themselves.

Organization

The head of the order carries the title of Lady General. Currently, that is Lady General Eleanor Quinn. When she dies or retires, it will pass to her heir, one of the Lady Captains. If the Order grows to the point where it is needed, Lady Sergeants may be appointed to oversee various areas. Despite the quasi-military structure, there really aren’t many orders passed down. Each Lady agrees to abide by the Code of Conduct, and that may be updated as necessary. If there are questions relating to a Lady’s actions, they may be called before a tribunal of three Silver Ladies for investigation and judgment. Beyond that, the Lady General requests monthly notes to ensure that there are no issues and none of the Ladies has been seriously hurt or killed.

Order of the Silver Ladies Code of Conduct

((This will likely get revised based on comments I get from people interested in the entitlement and ST input during the approvals process.))

1. I shall not stand idle if I hear of one who needs rescuing, be they Changelings being dragged back to Arcadia or mortals taken to become Lost.

2. I shall never harm a Silver Sister, nor willingly betray her, nor lead her to capture or harm at the hands of another.

3. I shall aid other Silver Ladies, when called upon or when I judge that aid is required, to the best of my ability.

4. I shall seek vengeance against those who harm any of the Silver Ladies, or who seek to do so. We will not be hunted again.

5. I shall not knowingly lie to members of the Order. (With the exceptions of small lies in the case of surprise birthday parties and similar celebrations.)

6. I shall stand proud before a tribunal or the leaders of the Order should they call me to account to answer questions regarding my conduct. I know that they are fair-minded, as will I be if I serve on such a tribunal, so I shall answer their questions and abide by their judgments. If I am called to serve on a tribunal, I shall be fair and just.

Purposely violating the Code of Conduct counts as quitting the order. The Silver Raiment goes inoperative, but it still cannot be removed. The bracelets and necklace remain, but they are tarnished a dull grey-black and will only look like plain metal bands, almost like manacles and a collar.

Privilege

Silver Raiment (Token)

No one knows what the quicksilver armor of the Order of the Silver Ladies is made of, and they only smile knowingly when asked. “Every lady has her secrets,” they murmur.

Thinking themselves unnoticed, Elementals have tried to manipulate it as metal or water, but to no avail. Artificers have tried to take samples, but failed. If it is a metal, no smith can work it. It answers only to the whim of the Silver Ladies, a mystery serving a mystery
