"You have plans for rats? Well I have dreams for them."

"What is a rat?"
He'd replied, "Teeth. Claws. Tail. Run. Hide. Eat. That's what a rat is."
"But now we can also say 'what is a rat?' And that means we're more than that."
"We're rats," He had argued. "We run around and squeak and steal and make more rats. That's what we're made for!"
"Who by?" -Both quotes from Pratchett's The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents

Look within the Walls

For of the soule the bodie forme doth take;
For the soule is forme, and doth the bodie make.
- Edmund Spenser "An Hymne in Honour of Beautie", line 132

Mask: Youngish, Well muscled in a compact, lithe way, Konigin seldom stands fully upright as if used to a ceiling too low for her tall frame. Habitually attired in long jackets, she hides behind smoked grey sunglasses at all times and frequently covers her hands with gloves. Her manner switches from laconic amusement to abrupt brutality with little warning, the mercurial moodswings of gutter royalty, and she goes from the stillness of a waiting hunter to the constant small movements of vermin as swiftly.

Mein: The lithe muscles stand out more, like an animal constantly in a state of exertion; her ears are faintly pointed and out just a bit too far from her head. Scars of a bewildering variety - jagged ones, neat ones from blades, bite marks, places where thorns have torn away at her - cover her skin, breaking up the slightly too thick hairs on her arms. Beneath the long jacket, usually coiled around her legs if in sight at all are three rat tails. And she always smells faintly of coppery blood, fur and leather.

Notable Traits: She makes an effort to conceal a world travelers accent: a little bit from various places.

Whispers of Vermin

I exist on the fringes in those places even the Lost have forgotten or fear to recognize exist. I live between the moments and in the shadows of the places no one else will go. I am rootless and without true home, as my children vermin hordes never have peace or stop moving. I quest for something, and I do not even know what it is I quest for.

I am Summer. I am implacable anger. I am the best and the worst of all my Vermin children. I am the Beast who protects and slays, I am the Ratcatcher who cannot be hidden from, I am the Trapbreaker who will steal from the gods and laugh, I am the Lady of Vermin, the Leader of the Swarm, die Rattenkonigin, The Ratqueen. And I am everywhere.

Konigin is a creature who seldom shares much about herself. From the occasional dropped comment and story this much is clear:
She was taken some decades back and returned in the very early 90's whereupon she joined with the Spring Court and threw herself into the lifestyle of the world traveler, always on the move to the next place, the next party, the next town over. Everywhere she went she was involved in the art scene and the promoter circuit, prefering raves and underground clubs where the bass was strong and the inhibitions low. The years slipped by and her Clarity failed her as her Wyrd grew and her responses to problems became increasingly violent and her joie de vivre faded into a grimmer and more distant attitude.

In the early part of the new millenia she abruptly switched courts from Spring to Summer and let her ties to the club and art scene fade mostly away, spending much of her free time fighting for her Court or talking to members of the Autumn court. It's said she's part of a motley that will, if the cause is right (though no one is sure what yardstick they use) will defend causes or people, even to the death, and who take grim delight in hunting down and killing the worst Oathbreakers.

And that's a task she's uniquely suited for, having been the 'Ratcatcher' for her Lord in Arcadia. Charged with hunting down escapees and killing them for trying to run back to the mortal world, she said once while deep in her drink, that not one she was sent after ever managed to escape and that most of them never did anything at all again.

In the last year or so, she's finally 'settled' as much as she ever does, maintaining semi-permanent residence in Arizona somewhere but is still as restless as the vermin she calls her children: always moving, visiting, exploring and in the meantime carrying messages back and forth between freeholds or accompanying someone as a guide or bodyguard.

Grafitti

  • Her sunglasses aren't required because of bad or sensitive vison but to hide something fucked up about her eyes.
  • She's known to reference very occasionally her "Good Twin" but who that is exactly is unclear.
  • She's a brutal thug who takes any excuse to murder, maim and kill to release her wrath.
  • When Konigin first came back from the Hedge she served the Spring Court and she doesn't talk about why she switched.
  • She didn't willingly leave the Spring Court for Summer, they threw her out and if Summer hadn't taken her she would have been killed.
  • For a brutal thug, she's a remarkably skilled artist specializing in stone and metal.
  • She has some sort of rivalry with members of The Praesidium and apparently delights in conning, tricking and beating it's members.
  • Despite her violent, brutal methods, she actually serves as a conscience of some sort for Jack Sprat.
  • She's disappears for weeks on end to Tomnahurich and some say she prefers the company of the Marrowmen and the fight against the Border Reavers to anything else in this world.
