Reflected Light

Atlantic City, NJ
The Atlantic City of the modern day is a great, glittering, gaudy facade overlaying a century of dirty money, shady deals, and debaucheries of all stripes. She remains a resort catering to the common man, and although the high rollers do come to her new luxury hotels and casinos it is the bachelor parties from Philadelphia and the aging housewives from Camden who keep her economy afloat. She is a thriving center of commerce in the secretive world of organized crime, even though her police force battles the mob as best it can, and less than legal groups of all sorts operate surreptitiously in her streets. She prostrates herself at the altar of the almighty dollar, and her citizens wouldn’t have it any other way. Newcomers who understand that fundamental aspect of her character will do well. Those who do not, will not.
History
The Four Kings Motley blew into town in the late 60s and made the town their own. They took the Four Kings name for their motley after rising to their seasonal Kingships in each of the four courts in Atlantic City. They were each liked, or at least respected, across court lines for their ability to get things done and lead decisively.
They were:
*Jonathan Stevens: Lion Beast, King of the Summer highlands.
*Andrew McKae: Treant and King of Autumn Leaves
*Leroy Price: Ogre of the Ice Throne
*Samantha Chase: Mermaid of the Vernal Storm
Others drifted in and out of the city, as such was its nature as a vacation town. In the late 80s another figure arrived. Known only as “The Tempest” he instantly conflicted with the Four Kings and went into reclusion, working his various schemes from the privacy of his hideaway. Through the 90s The Tempest worked various schemes to chisel away the power of the Four Kings. He almost succeeded several times, but was always bested and sent packing by the Kings.
The turn of the century brought a time of peace. The Tempest seemed quiet, and the rest of the city’s affairs seemed relatively sedate. New Changelings came and went (read: PCs). Then, in 2002, it happened.
The Tempest declared that he had found a dire threat to the city and demanded that every Changeling in the city leave immediately. Minions took aggressive measures in scaring away many of the local Hollow. The Four Kings decided that this was the last straw and went to do battle with The Tempest and his followers.
The battle was surely monumental. The hedge was flung around like a bush in a hurricane, prompting those still in the city to stay away from anything non-mundane for weeks. As for the outcome, nobody really knows. None of the participants have been heard from. Five years have passed since that summer night, each season awaiting its King to return. Now the host of Atlantic City have decided to move on with rebuilding their lives. Autumn has come, and it is time to move on.
