Jonathan Atley was a great swimmer. he was captain of the swim team in Florida. Any opportunity to swim he would take it. One evening he was swimming in the gulf when a wave swept him under. No matter how hard he struggled he continued downward. He was brought before a creature of the deep. He spent years being tortured and beaten for the pleasure of his master. His only respite came when he was allowed to be the torturer. He would twist and warp the bodies of his tormentors as they had him. He learned to glean power from the fear and suffering. He stored it up and after an invigorating session he made a break for it and surfaced in the "Real World" once again.

Physical description:
Fae Mein
There is a shifting and writhing under his skin. It almost appears as if worms or small creatures are trying to press out of his skin. The skin itself is a sickly grey, shiny and moist; though when he touches you his hands are always dry even standing in the rain. His face is sunken and his skin is streched across his bones. His mouth is filled with several rows of needle sharp teeth and his tongue is an octopus tentacle.
Mask
Goodfellow appears about 20 to 25 years of age with permature greying hair. He always has a smile and kind greeting for everyone. Though people know him to be at least 30 years old he tells people that happiness keeps him young.

Character History

Beginnings
Jonathan Atley lived in Florida and, grew up middle class. He lead a relatively normal life. He was an exceptional swimmer and spent most of his time down at the beach. In high school he was the top swimmer in his school his freshman year. The week before the state competition his life ended.

Abused
Beginning his time in the Far Realm he was viciously tortured by other captives more depraved than him. He was trained to scream a certain pitch so that he and others were lined up for their keeper and whipped making music beautiful only to the alien mind of his monstrous captor. During his first performance his voice began to crack, ruining the music and angering his Watcher and his tormentors.
The entire troupe was sent to work demolishing shrines and temples to forgotten gods and rebuilding them to glorify the Watcher. The Watcher had set them to work but would randomly select a few to be the foremen. Allowing them to abuse and torture the others as they pleased. As work continued the abuses became worse. The only way to survive the torture was to learn to glean power from the fear and suffering of the others. Eventually, Jonathan learned to draw fear out of his slaves with his mere presence.
The whole time the Watcher looked on and was pleased by what he had wrought. Everyone hated each other because of the abuse that they suffered and rarely thought of the captor as the cause of their worries.
This cycle repeated endlessly until he decided he had enough. After a changing of the guard was announced; rather than suffer at the hands of an exceptionally cruel foreman he fled. Others had attempted to flee and were not successful, but he had to try.
The Watcher monitored his captives for fear of it and was able to stop the others from fleeing as they looked over their shoulder for the ever-present monitor. Jonathan was not worried about the Watcher however. He was only worried about his fellow captives discovering him.

Shattered
Upon escaping he ran home. When he arrived he saw himself through the kitchen window filling out college applications. To him many years had passed but it seemed that in the real world only 2 years had gone by. He watched this imposter talk to his parents and act like he had. This had to be stopped, he thought. He decided that he would get rid of this imposter as soon as he was able to get him away from his family. He followed him the next day and ended up at the beach. As he crested the hill he saw the beach for the first time since his imprisonment.
He froze at the top of the hill unable to move, see or feel anything around him. Every crashing wave hit him like the lash of a whip. The salt in the air smelled of blood and death. He stood on the hill well past nightfall. Suddenly he broke from his tormented revelry and began to run away as tears streaked down his face. He ran yelling in anguish. Now he was the afraid of what gave him the most joy in the world. The water.
He spent a while wandering around from city to city lost. He would settle in a city for no more than a month or two and move on.
Theft in the Alley
As he wandered Jonathan was constantly haunted by memories of the Watcher and his torture. He was convinced that the thing that took his place was put there to torture him further. The Watcher let him go. Even now he was probably smiling that wicked smile while his mind fractured slowly. Now he wasn’t threatened with death but taunted by life. He was able to watch others live as he could not.
One night, he had settled down in an alley in Denver and witnessed an event that would change the course of his life. He saw two figures struggling when one of them fell. He scared off the remaining person and would have slunk back in his corner when he noticed a pool of blood forming in the alley near the fallen form. As he went over to the person he watched shocked as the person gurgled blood. Spitting and wheezing he managed to spit out to tell his parents…
Jonathan decided that he should tell his parents that he loved them. Since it was a dying man’s last request he would honor it. He grabbed the man’s wallet and headed in the direction of his house. While he was walking he decided on a course of action.
New Life
Jonathan decided that he had existed for long enough without a life. He would now take his. That man, or boy since he was only twenty one, had his chance at life and failed. Now it was his turn. He was no longer Jonathan Atley. He hadn’t been since someone else took that away. Now he was… who? The license proclaimed his new name, Robert Goodfellow. He went back to the alley and disposed of the body as best he could. He changed clothes and called the police on his new cell phone. After spending the night in the hospital, with a self inflicted wound talking to police he was picked up by his parents. The first thing he did was fulfill the dead man’s last request.
Over the next several months he seemed withdrawn and quiet as he adjusted to his new life. Everyone thought the mugging had shaken him up, and no one suspected the truth. Soon he fell into his new life and things came together. Robert was already in college and so he got to skip a couple grades. He was on the student government and worked as a bartender at his father’s saloon, Beaver Liquors Saloon. Things seemed to be rapping up as a happily ever after but just because you bury the past doesn’t mean it goes away.
