Sea of Thorns

The Sea of Thorns refers both to a grouping of people and a geographical location.

There is a group of Lost who seek out a home. They have had everything taken from them and have nowhere to turn. They have turned to each other to rebuild what is lost (including themselves.) The core of the Sea speak in hushed tones of a new era; a time when they will be safe but know the glory and dreams of from where they came. The focus is to build a home, to build a future, to build paradise.

Also in the Sea are those who are just searching for something to do or somewhere to belong. They have fallen in with the group as a place to fit in and find a family. There are friends and associates, fanatics and dreamers, all mixed together in the Sea. Many of those, especially the believers in the possibility of the 'peaceful home through any means necessary' carry titles to indicate such. Lady of Thorns is an example. Others, such as Prince of Thorns or Ward of Thorns, are titles bestowed for action, circumstance, or family.

The waterways between Key Biscayne and Bimini are often referred to as such for the number of speed boats and yachts that arrive from the Caribbean owned to a Ms. Laurel Thorn. There are several other places (smuggling ports) in the Caribbean where such a reference might be made - such as Salt Island and a port in Tortuga - but the main usage in Lost society seems to be for the area of the ocean east of Ft. Lauderdale.
