Background:
Born in 1980 into a normal family. His father was a craftsmen, his mother a housewife.
He had a sister who was older and her name was Karin. She would always taunt him about being smaller.
When he was 18 he was taken. After a fight with the local kids near where he lived in Inverness he staggered towards what he thought was home. it was cold and he hit the ground.
When he awoke he did so in a very different place.
He was being chased through a forest, dense and dangerous. Wolf howls echoed through the darkness he emerged in a scarred landscape.
As he wandered the scorched landscape huge rents visible in the earth he heard more dire sounds.
Whilstling noises from above, as he stared into the sky he threw himself to the side as the bombs fell. he didnt know where to run, he just did. Soon dozens of people began to appear, running towards him, he heard machine guns chattering, rifles and rockets flew past him. Hell erupted.
He kept running, the bullets the bombs, it didnt matter. He just ran.
And then he fell flat on his face. an was out cold again.
He thought it was a dream but when he awoke he was in a concrete bunker. in front of him a tall creature, with horns and metal skin stood. he wore a prestine military uniform and was armed with a side arm and dress sword.
He announced himself as Colonel Ghast. And that i was to be his soldier. thiking he was still dreaming i just shruged it off. then i got shot. twice. the pain told me i was no longer dreaming.
I passed out, in a pool of blood and piss. both my own.
When he woke he was subject to mental destruction. his mind was broken, he no longer had a name, he was Soldier XVII, Royal Engineers.
Solitary confinement, Cold water, stabbing, poison, bullets, he was given the whole treatment.
He was let out and given a job being an apprentice to another XXVI, making weapons to be used in the wargame.
A note on the Lord:
His fae Lord, had a love of war, most specifically, the first world war. And as such had much delight in re-enacting it with other fae lords wagering bets of lives and other such things. During his time in the forge his fae lord waged many "wargames" from all eras of war, from english civil war to Veitnam.
He worked the forge, the assembly line, he put together weapons and knives and was soon training up to make his masters favourite weapon of war. Soon he knew every wepaon he made, he could name almost every weapon in service by both fae lords. The Colonel loved his artillery and explosives. And Soldier XVII was being trained for more than one reason.
The Colonel went through his "sappers" quickly as he had a tendancy to blow the explosives up too soon. Patience was not his virtue. And Soldier XVII was being trained to go to front line combat as one of these sappers.
But things didnt go to plan.
Soldier XVII went out into the field of battle as planned. He was deployed with three others to go out and blow up an enemy fortification. They went out under the cover of night, and began to deploy the explosives. Then as the firing pin was inserted hell broke out. Bullets flew everywhere, flares and flashlights flicked on. Then the Explosives went off.
Soldier XVII flew 50 metres into the sky and fell through the dark tree's he once remembered. He staggered about, his bag weighed heavily on him, he clutched onto his gun by rote. In his shellshocked state he saw an arch in the tree's. He staggered a bullet punched through his shoulder and he still staggered. he didnt notice the wound, he was too cold.
Cold he thought. he remembered cold.
He wandered and wanderd, bullets whistled through the air, and then he fell through the arch and hit the floor. concrete floor.
and then he passed out.

I knew a simple soldier boy Who grinned at life in empty joy, Slept soundly through the lonesome dark, And whistled early with the lark. In winter trenches, cowed and glum, With crumps and lice and lack of rum, He put a bullet through his brain. No one spoke of him again. You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye Who cheer when soldier lads march by, Sneak home and pray you’ll never know The hell where youth and laughter go." - Siegfried Sassoon
