History

There once was a pair of twins who were alike as could be. They were born on the Solstice, neither that of Summer or Winter, but simply the day that was the Solstice, for such is the way of things in Faerie. Though they grew up together, and played together, they would soon become of very different natures. Each of these children were born under the sign of a rose, the elder (as age is reckoned) was born under the sign of a white rose tree, while the younger was born under the red rose boughs. They were as good and happy, as busy and cheerful, as ever two children in the world were, only White was more quiet and gentle than Red. Red liked better to run about in the meadows and fields seeking flowers and catching butterflies; but White preferred to stay indoors, collecting objects of yore and books of lore.

Yet, as such things are told, the two began to grow apart. If the stories are to believe, there was a mortal man at the heart of it all. White and Red both became fascinated with the same man, and both of them desired him for their own. One day, Red espied the man in the dark forest, walking all alone. She decided that such was her chance, and took upon herself a mortal guise. She fashioned a cloak of rose petals and blood, to wear it about herself, and in this red riding-hood she crept into the forest where the man sought to find his way through. Through words, deeds and temptations of food, Red lured the man into a cottage in the middle of the Hedge. Here she beguiled the man and took him into bed. Then, to ensure that her sister would never find him, she turned him into the guise of a wolf. Ever to wander the edge of the forest, with an unsatisfied hunger for girls in red.

It would be many years before White learned of this trick. She went away and read her books, seeking out the arts of sorcery and enchantment. Then with these powers at hand, she found the place in the woods, and found the wandering wolf, and peeled the wolf-skin off in blood and in pain. Lying before White was a cold and naked man. Seeing this broken and bruised man, White felt no longer love for him. Instead, she felt bitter anger at her sister for making this once loved thing into something she could no longer see. As she walked away, she brushed the cast off wolf-skin and summoned a a blanket of snow to cover this forest-Hedge in the chill of Winter.

Red, having kept a home of the cottage in the woods, knew not what to make of this strange weather and holed herself up tight by the fire. To this place, White came wrapped in the cowl of winter itself, with snow-white skin, raven black hair and lips as red as blood. Red invited her in as sisters do. Yet, naught but few minutes had passed before there was a knock at the door. Upon this, White bade Red to open the door, claiming it to be a traveller seeking shelter. Red went and pushed back the bolt to see upon the step a broad black bear sticking its head within the door. Red invited the bear in, beside the fire, who growled contentedly and comfortably. It was not long before the bear grew quite at home, and Red played tricks with their clumsy guest. She tugged his hair with their hands, put her feet upon his back and rolled him about, or took a hazel-switch and beat him, and when he growled she laughed. But the bear took it all in good part, only, when they were too rough, he called out. Eventually the bear was beaten dead.

To this, White turned and proclaimed her thanks for having beaten her own lover dead. She pulled aside the bear skin, to show that it was that same man whom they both once adored. Having been left for dead in the cold, he turned to the only source of warmth. The fur-skin bewitched by White to make him appear instead as a bear. Red cursed White for her tricks, and banished her from her sight. Since them, the White and Red Queens have never been friends. They are sisters, true but never shall Summer love Winter; the battles of Red and White played over and over on small little boards and each battling for the title of Fairest of Them All.

Profile

The two sisters, known as the White and Red Queens, are both creatures of great beauty and grace. The Crimson Lady is known for wearing a cloak fashioned of red-rose petals and blood, while the White Witch wears a cowl of ice and white-rose petals. Each of them in turn represents a manifestation of Eternal Winter or Summer. Though they were both once known as youthful Fae, they have since decided to bear about themselves a more mature and stately mien. Red's hair is interwoven with brambles and leaves of Summer, including a crown of jasmine branches. White has a crown of frozen ice and snow spires that catch the light with frozen hue.

Rose Red

Rose Red is also known as the Crimson Lady of Eternal Summer.
OOC NOTE: Please note, that players with Rose Red as a Keeper will leave their durance with a deep distate of Summer and the Summer Court. Players who wish to be members of the Summer Court are advised that this is not a suitable Keeper for their changeling - see Snow White below.

Estate

Rose Red's estate is a sprawling garden of eternal Summer. I has rows of gardens with all variety of bizarre plants and animals. In particular, it is most famed for the rose bower at the centre of the garden and the pretty maids in a row.
