The Hedge
The Hedge is a dangerous and terrifying place in general, but in Kansas City it has been even moreso.
Since before 1998, at least as far as can be remembered by any of the local Lost population, there have been no Hollows, trods or byways. The Hedge itself grew out of control, and the beasts that dwelled within there were massive and more deadly than any other area that they had heard of.
Many times changelings had delved into the local Hedge, never to return. The vines and bramble that made it up would close up behind them faster than they were able to maintain. One could carve out a path, but it was more of an operation of futility and suicide.
Now, however, things have changed. During the Autumn Court's reign in 2007, a stranger was found within the Hedge. He was dispatched by the efforts of the Lost, and the Hedge stopped replenishing itself unchecked.
Normal Hedge activity seems to be returning. The Goblin Markets have begun to return. New, less deadly, Hedge creatures have been seen and encountered. Hollows have begun to be carved out of the Hedge.
But yet the local Lost can only wonder, did the strange overgrowth of the Hedge draw the attention of Them?
The Mundane
The Crossroads encompasses the Kansas City area south of the Missouri river.
The city is always bustling with a fine appreciation for amateur and ecclectic arts with a constant coffee scent in the air from the Folgers factory that sits downtown.
As you go to midtown and pass the Union Station a person can see why its called The City of Fountains. Large statues representing the city's rich history stand amidst beautiful showering shows of water spouting in a perfectly timed displays.
The apparent theme of Kansas City is diversity as each different culture spins the intricate tapestry of the city into a true traditional melting pot of middle America
Just like most midwest cities it experiences the full brunt of each of the seasons.
The Winter is always a bitter, icy-cold with light grey skies and it seems to drag on forever. Trees snap and break under the weight of the thick ice that entombs the tall giants. The purple-grey night sky is illuminated by the blue-pink explosions of transformers from the weight of every icestorm.
The Spring is always drenched in thick, fat rain drops and tornadic weather as cold fronts battle warm fronts and spawn massive tornados and microbursts that eventually yield beautiful sun swept days and rainbows followed by pink-orange sunsets.
The Summer is oppressively hot and humid. The heat blazes up from hot cement casting a flickering heat-wave illusion on the horizon. The day pushes on way past normal hours and the torturous humidity tests the mettle of all denizens of the Crossroads; causing the temperature to feel ten to fifteen degrees hotter than it is. The day eventually gives way to a cool evening and beautiful starry sky that shines brighter than any other sky during the year.
The Autumn is stunningly beautiful with all foliage blushing to deep shades of red and orange with the occassional yellow. Soft, cool, rain falls from overcast grey skies and chills the weather ever-slightly as the world drifts asleep toward Winter.
