Prerequisites
OOC: A member must have Composure x3, Contract: Dream x5, Wyrd x3.
IC: A prospective member must show exceptional skill in Oneiromancy and Dreamcraft.
Joining
A member may seek membership into the Dream Smiths, but more often, a Draemer will approach a prospective member that has shown promise with the Contract of Dreams. Although the following information is provided OOC'ly, what is known is that there are tasks that a prospective member is put through to become a Draemer.
There are four steps to becoming a Draemer:
- The prospective member is required to show their skills at dream manipulation. This is by far the easiest step in the process. Usually, the Draemer and the prospective member will enter the dreams of a mortal in tandem. The prospective member will manipulate the dream and the Draemer will evaluate their skills. Once they do this to the satisfaction of the Draemer Mentor, they are considered an Initiate
- They must show their mental fortitude to not be effected by a series of dreamscapes prepared by the Draemer. They are usually nightmare dreamscapes that take into account the personal fears of the Initiate. The Initiate must show that they are capable of not being effected by the emotions that a dreamscape can evoke.
- The Initiate is brought before the council, and the Mentor will request them entrance into the noble order. The council will deliberate, taking into account the testimony of the Mentor, and the statement made by the Initiate to the council. The decision must be unanimous. The deliberation can take as much time as is necessary, but is usually relatively short.
- Lastly, if the Initiate has been unanimously accepted by the council, they are given the opportunity to take the oath of the Draemer. (Not listed here.)
Mein
Draemers frequently appear less tangible, more ethereal then other lost, having delved too often into the dreams of others, it is almost as though they are more dream themselves. As well, having manipulated countless dreams their hands begin to darken; starting at the fingertips and moving up the fingers and hand, they turn black. Their hands begin to look like they are stained by black ink. This effect also happens at other locations on their body, such as their eyes, mouth or other places.
Background
- Who is the founder? Dr. Artemis Somnus – An Autumn Court Fairest/Flowering in the Kansas City area.
- Where did it all start? Kansas City, MO, USA
- When did the entitlement get started? December of 2006
- What event(s) was the foundation for this entitlement to be started? Various cases Dr. Somnus had dealt with at his clinic. There were various individuals that had similar but not repeating dreams. To study these, Dr. Somnus developed the method to create the dream orbs. This allowed for the dreams to be catalogued, and studied further. The first of the Dream Orbs were using the standard method of Dreamweaving in Onieromancy (pg. 196) However, the dreams within the objects faded and could not hold together. This forced Dr. Somnus to formulate the method of Dream Orb creation. It took some time to determine that the sphere was the best form to use for the archiving of the dreams.
- Why did the founder start it? What was his/her mind frame? Dr. Somnus started the order to further assist in his studies of dreams and nightmares. He was of the mindset that there was something larger occurring that was causing the similarities in the dreams and nightmares of his patients and that by understanding it, he would be able to resolve the situation so that his patients could be returned to a semblance of normalcy.
- What other events and what other fae played the biggest part in the start of this entitlement? Unknowingly, Vicky Sage played a large part in the formation of the Dream Smiths. She was the one that originally planted the seed in Dr. Somnus to open his clinic. Thus he was able to see the pattern of similar dreams and nightmares among his patients.
Organization
This is added here for informational purposes OOC'ly only. This information is known only to members of the Entitlement, though it is believed that they have some form of hierarchical structure.
- Founder – Dr. Artemis Somnus
- Councilor – The council is planned for a later time when there are more members.
The council is made up of 5 of the most potently skilled Draemers of the order. Council spots are chosen by all members upon the opening of a council position. Councilors may be removed when a Mentor calls for their dismissal, and a vote is taken among the councilors, which must have a majority for the councilor to be removed.
Current Councilors: Dr. Artemis Somnus, Dr. Lucille Norman
- Mentor – These are the some of the most skilled of the Draemers, chosen to train acolytes.
Mentors are chosen yearly by the Council. There is usually only 1 Mentor for every 3-5 Members.
Current Mentors: Alexander Delapore
- Member – The standard ‘rank’ of a Draemer granted this title by the Mentor upon the completion of training by the Acolyte
Current Members: Morpheus, Jack Thorn, Shadow, (A player's unnamed PC)
- Acolyte – A newly inducted Draemer. All Acolytes have taken the oath of the Draemer. (Not listed here)
- Initiate – A prospective member
Current Initiates: Maelstrom, Uriel de Lenormand
Privileges
This information is provided purely OOC'ly.
- Dream Orb Creation
- A Draemer has mastered entering, interacting with, and adjusting the dreams of others. Due to their expanded understanding of the essence of dreams, they have mastered creation of dreaming, dreamweaving, and dreamwoven objects, and are capable of even recording a dream into a container created for this purpose. The container must be shaped into a sphere, but the material of the orb is up to the Draemer, though glass or crystal is the most common material.
- Creating a Dream Orb is the same as with Dreamweaving on page 196 of C:tL. It is an extended challenge with Intelligence + Empathy + Wyrd as the pool though it only takes 1 Hour per draw. For recording a dream, the draw is Wits + Empathy + Wyrd, and the target number of successes is the intensity of the dream which is pre-determined by the presiding ST, and will take the same 1 draw/1 Hour.
- A Dream Orb functions the same as a Dreamwoven object after creation, with the exception that a Dream Orb can never contain a Wyrd Dream.
Rumors of the Draemer
- It is said that the darkness on the Draemer's body is the stain from their powers feeding the Gentry.
- Nobody knows exactly why the Draemers must use spheres, but it's believed to be that the potency of the dreams contained within them are too powerful to be contained within a normal object and that they need the stability of a sphere to contain them.
- The Draemer's are masters of dreamscapes and can create a realm for individuals wishing an arena to duel on level ground.
- It is said there is a malevolent purpose for the Draemer’s Dream Orbs, and users of them receive constant nightmares after the first use of one.
- The minds of the Draemers are constanly on edge as they have given up their ability to dream to some darker beings for untold power.
- Playing with the dreams of many, have made them all a bit mad.
