Overview

This is the wiki page for the Belgian Lost game. It is an out of character resource for Lost players. Not only Belgian Lost players, but also for foreign Lost players who are looking for a background link, Gentry or want to proxy into the Belgian venue.

Introduction

Basic mood

The Gentry _are_ active in Belgium. And the Changelings know it. The Courts realise that they’re not the only supernaturals out there. Some fear the other races, some want to investigate, some want to blend in. Some have come here to flee their past and start over, some are trying to start anew. And whichever action they choose, they will have concequences.

History of The Divided Kingdom

Belgium, while being a small country, doesn’t lack in supernatural activity (Vampires, Werewolves and Changelings mainly). And there are some legends and folk tales to prove that history (Ambiorix in Tongeren, Opsinjoorke in Mechelen, Bokkenrijders in Bokrijk, etc). Changeling activity is smaller in Belgium compared to other countries because of it’s geographical size, but they are by no means less active.

The Freehold

The Divided Kingdom Belgium is, in the real world as much as in the world of the Lost, a Kingdom divided. In the mortal realm it is divided in the Flemish and Wallon sides, with a German part dangling on. But I'm sure the current global news has enough to say on that political matter.

In the fae realms, it is divided in between the courts, and the courts amongst themselves, as Belgian Lost are, like their mortal counterparts, stubborn and strong willed, and all have different opinions and difficulties to compromise.

The Strongholds

  • Smoldering Embers: Stronghold of the Summer Court, which lies in the South of Louvain.
  • Winter’s Tears: Ancient holdings of the Winter CourtThe Court of Sorrow’s Stronghold of Winter’s Tears is situated in the North of Louvain, as it always has done in the past. The grounds and castle are eternally covered in snow and ice of winter everlasting, and it has and shall remain a bastion of those that have pledged their allegiance to Winter himself. Where in the past the Winter Court was the strongest court in both representation and rulership, it’s numbers have greatly dwindled in the recent decade, as many members either disappeared, chose to live amongst the mortals or simply moved to other countries. Currently the court is small in numbers, but strong in it’s loyalty to their Season and the cause of the Lost in Belgium . And now, during the most dangerous time of year, it is the Silent Arrow that takes the crown and rules the freehold of the Divided Kingdom. Members of the Onyx Court might often go unnoticed, but that does not mean that they are not fierce warriors, politicians and magic users, determined to keep the Lost community safe throughout all Winter. The location of Winter's Tears is in the North of Louvain.

  • The Darkest Spring: Domain of the Spring Court, which is located in the East of Louvain

Historical Personalities

Companions

  • Briquet: miniature fire dragon, companion to the Summer court

Briquet is probably the most spoilt of all companions in Belgium, having had a huge compound build for him in the Summer court freehold where he can play and chase miniature cows to his wish. He is mostly seen following Tristan around as fire likes fire. His breathweapon is fire.

  • Phinneas Smog: miniature black dragon, companion to the Autumn court

Smog is a black dragon, aptly named for his ability to turn into a puff of smoke and disappear altogether when he feels like it. He’s not particulary brave, but he loves spying and nosing through books. He is mostly seen around the Williams sisters, as they have the most books of all members of the Autumn court. He's been known to spit a spray of acid when angry.

  • Frosty: miniature ice dragon, companion to the Winter court

Frosty is a white dragon living in Erik’s smithy as Arthur finds him an inferiour breed of dragon, thus hurting the little guy’s feelings on many occasions. The HunterHearts love jumping up after him to play, scaring him so he turns to Erik for peace and quiet. He has a comfortable corner in the smithy that is all his and has known to disappear completely out of sight, just like members of the court. His breathweapon is a spray of intense frost and sharp ice crystals.

  • Acid: miniature green dragon, companion to the Spring court

Acid hangs out with Random and wears a spiked collar. He seems to be very into the entire refurbishment that the Spring Stronghold has recently gone through. He loves loud music and causing trouble. His breath weapon is acid.

  • Mr Mistopheles: Kara William's feline aide-de-champ is a young black hedgecat with a penchant for trouble, mysteries and a love for books.

The Gentry

There are several True Fae active in Belgium. Whether directly or indirectly via minions. If you see a Keeper that you like, please do not hesitate to contact the person responsible for them about a background link. Please do NOT just use the information found here without first speaking to the person behind the gentry first. They’ve put a lot of hard work in them, and it’s only common courtesy to communicate with them first, especially as they all love background links!

Antagonists

  • Sector 13: The Sector are the governments covert ops that hunt the things that go bump in the night, and everything that isn’t plain old human. They are driven by the determination to take back the night, and in many cases also the day from the supernatural races. Especially Kindred society has felt their ire, but mages, werewolves and changelings are equally in danger of this group of radicals.

Despite them being a small group, they can count on quite a bit of back-up, as they have the power to call in official groups from the Belgian government to support them. Recently however, they lost as much as 50 of their members in a bold attack on Keizersberg Abbey, the Lancea Sanctum stronghold.

Part 3: Description of Venue

Provide several paragraphs that establish the basic mood and history of the venue.

Part 4: Storytelling Mechanics

Detail any of that apply to the venue:

• Special venue emphasis (rare)

  • Restricted access games: while I understand the necessaisity of Kith/Seeming or Court only games, I don’t think there will be any happening in the first year of the venue. Well not in Belgium at least, if one is organised abroad and one of my players wants to visit it, I’m not going to say they can’t. But I don’t see it being organised in Belgium this soon. After that, possibly, but then I will make sure that this kind of thing happens for ALL kiths/seemings/courts in Belgium so no player will be left out. Especially if overcap is involved (I’m not saying it will be involved, I’ll have to see that when the time is there).
  • First 6 months closed: I want to start up small, because it’s my first time STing, and because I feel that Lost is a game of personal horror, drama and intrigue. I want to do justice to it. And if that means starting small, so be it. Better start right after all ^__^. Members of all 3 Belgian domains will be invited to play and we’ll have a grand time. June 2006 the venue will open and everyone that wants to play can (provided they make a character according to the rules, but I’m sure that stands as a given :P).

I also have several new players, and seeing that Lost isn’t the easiest game to start with, I think it will be beneficiary for them as well to be able to start in a small group. Furthermore, it will mean that approximately 15 changelings start the game. They will build up things, they might be the only ones of their kind. They might even become powerful in their court or amongst their own kind. And then suddenly, there will be new arrivals, possibly even rivals. And this will be excellent for character development, personal plot and PC interaction.

  • Cross-venue rp: I am NOT opposed to cross-venue roleplay. BUT, it must be controled and regulated. I will NOT give out random x-over approvals. IF a player wishes to cross into another venue (in Belgium that’s most likely to be Requiem) they need to have a good reason AND not only obtain my permission, but also that of the ST of the Domain + venue they wish to cross into.

e.g. A Lost player that plays a Fire Elemental of the Summer Court wishes to cross into the Requiem venue to get information from the vampires. First the player must write out an explanation of why he wants to do this and more importantly, how he is going to find a vampire (finding a vampire, or several, will cost him a DT action). Then he must send this to myself and the Requiem ST involved (so either Roel, David or Nordin). If both STs involved give permission, the player will be made aware of the risks (the vampires will likely not know about Changelings, and there’s no telling how they will react and PCs might get injured, captured or even die). The Requiem ST involved will then have to follow the “random encounter” rules and see IF (because the Lost player simply might not find a vampire) he find a vampire and determining which one he finds. All players involved will then be giving permission to interact. They can either do so over e-mail (with the ST’s in CC) or face-to-face (before a game, or at an agreed time) or over IRC or IM. ST will, however, need to be present or given a log of what took place. I’m not inclined to allow a character to go to actually games of another venue with their Lost character. I’m not saying I’ll never agree to that, I’m just saying that the chance is absolutely minimal I’ll say yes and the player will need to have a damned good reason to do so.

• Proxy rules I’m not planning on arranging huge proxy scenes like we see in e.g. Requiem in the forseeable future. However, should they be PC initiated (e.g. a member of the Summer Court throwing a big party) then I’m not going to say no on general principle  In any case, if a player wishes to proxy (be it a foreign player into Belgium or a Belgian player to another country) they will have to contact both their home ST and the ST of the domain they are proxying to and get approval from both (I’m only going to say no if there’s something wrong approval wise PCs involved, I’m all for international play). IF there is a big proxy going on in Belgium, I will make sure there is a good and clear proxy email send out via all the appropriate channels which will include all details it needs to include.

• Travel risks

  • Mundane travel: as Changelings can pass for humans they are able to travel quite easily throughout Belgium. Changelings that have possession of a Belgian identity card that is either real or a very good forgery should be able to travel easily within the European Union as well. They will need a passport to travel beyond that, and a good one at that if it’s a forgery. Of course, obtaining fake ID comes with risks :D
  • Supernatural travel: traveling through the Dreaming comes with risks as descriped in the core book (Changeling the Lost). So players know what they’re getting themselves into before they start :D.

• Visiting characters guidelines As long as players are all set proxy rules wise, it’s fine by me. I will, however, require an explanation from every visiting player as to how they got into Belgium. If they used mundane ways of transportation and have valid ID then that’s all fine. If they came through the Dreaming, well, we’ll see when we get there :D

• Experience award guidelines One game a month: 5 xp Second game (IRC opportunities a plenty): 5 xp DT xp: 5 xp per month Cap per month: 10 xp If you e.g. play the monthly game, you get 5 xp. You are awarded for good RP and you get the 2 xp. You then have 7 xp. This means you can earn the remaining 3 by either DT (downtime actions), playing an IRC game or playing a game abroad.

  • Overcap: only via national or regional games that have been overcap approved by the NST of that country, or by games that have been overcap approved by the MST (game of the month). There will be NO overcap opportunities in Belgium in 2007, and the only one I can forsee happening in 2008 is the national, providing that happens after June 2008.

This gives all Belgian players the opportunity to get their maximum xp every month. I don’t want to be in a situation where I have a player that has very actively played his PC every month for 2 years has only half the xp of a UK or US player with much more phsysical game opportunities. Everyone should and shall be entitled to opportunities to cap out. They have to do an efford though. Hance me splitting up the XP the way I have. Also, I full well understand that a lot of players have limited (some even very limited) time. This way it gives them an opportunity to get XP as well, even when they can not attend games. It makes sure people have to roleplay to get their xp. It’s called _experience_ for a reason after all 
