"Our dried voices, when we whisper together are quiet and meaningless as wind in dry grass or rats' feet over broken glass in our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour, paralysed force, gesture without motion;
...Let me be no nearer in death's dream kingdom
let me also wear such deliberate disguises
rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
in a field, behaving as the wind behaves
no nearer-- Not that final meeting
in the twilight kingdom
The eyes are not here - There are no eyes here
in this valley of dying stars, In this hollow valley
in this broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
Between the idea, and the reality
between the motion, and the act
falls the shadow
Between the conception, and the creation
between the emotion, and the response
falls the Shadow
Between the desire, and the spasm
between the potency, and the existence
between the essence, and the descent
falls the Shadow
...this is the way the world ends
not with a bang but a whimper."
- T.S. Eliot, The Hollow Men
Overview
Alias(es): The Nameless uses any number of names, depending on what face he is wearing at the time
Real Name: Unknown
Age:
Concept: The Shadow Behind The Throne
Entitlement: Magistrates of the Wax Mask
Physical description: The Nameless wears many faces, and claims to have none of his own. When he isn't impersonating someone else, he appears as a tall, hunched figure dressed in a long tattered black robe that seems to move about him as if it had a mind of its own. Beneath the hood, he bears a white and blue mask that appears to be made of dripping molten wax. A pair of jaundiced, bloodshot eyes peer out of the eyeholes of the mask. The sole bit of flesh that is visible on The Nameless are his pale, wrinkled hands with elongated fingers and brittle black claw-like fingernails. Those that have felt his passing near them say that he bears an aura of icy cold, not unlike the bitter chill of a winter night's air.

Allies
Kingsley Appleberry - The Winter Queen of Colorado Springs, and The Nameless's mistress. It serves her unerringly, and can often be found hovering about her as if it were her shadow. Some whisper that their relationship is more than just that between Queen and servant, but neither will comment upon such things.
Azure - Another advisor to Kingsley Applebottom, and The Nameless's primary rival for the Winter Queen's attention. The pair of them circle one another as if they were foes, but when worse comes to worse, they both turn their focus towards eliminating whatever foe dare threaten their Queen.
Enemies
Vestigere - The primary hunter for the Choir Empress, and the bogeyman that even The Nameless fears. The fact that Vestigere is now out of the Hedge, and living just north of it, struck The Nameless with such fear that it's pledged to never openly go to Denver's freehold. The Nameless knows, just knows that Vestigere has to be a Loyalist, still working for their former Mistress. Until it has proof it must hide, it must bide its time...

However, the primary inspirations for the character's look and personality are the Phantom of the Opera (both the musical and literary versions), the Hunchback of Notre Dame (the original novel), the poem 'The Hollow Men' by T.S. Eliot, the poem 'Howl' by Allen Ginsberg, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy (the films, not the books).

Quotes
"Oh, dear girl - there's no need to lie to it. You see, lying to it would imply that you believe it knows nothing of what you speak, when in truth, it does. It knows all too well of what you were doing, and more importantly whom you were doing it to. So, if you don't mind - shall we dispense with the cloak and dagger, and get on to what's really important? Excellent. Let's begin by you telling it the truth." - The Nameless, to an unfortunate betrayer of his Queen.
"Why is it The Nameless, you ask? It'll tell you, sure - it is because it does not exist. What you see before you now is but the palest shadow of the man it once was. You see, it had everything taken from it. Once upon a time, it had a wife, and children. It had a job, and a house, and a life. It had money, and clothes, and cars, and everything that defines a man. And some crazed, arrogant thing from beyond the Hedge came and stole it all away. That...thing took away everything that made the man, and all that is left is this that stands before you. So, there, now you know why it is the Nameless. Feel better now, hmm?" - The Nameless, in response to questions regarding his name.
"Anyone ever tell you, Nothing, that you have that slightly creepy sex offender feel about you?" - The Mouse, in response to meeting The Nameless for the first time.
"I spy...the shadowed clerk...with my little eye. Honorable release? Fearful flight? Damnable curiosity? What drew you from those darkened halls into the crisp colors of the Empire, then the Hedge, then Earth? Doesn't She draw you home like a magnet, missing your Nameless musings and your Nameless presence? Will you deny Her the call, like I do, or will you quench Her command and return home...like a good little clerk?" - Vestigere the Usurper
Rumors
- There is a point in the contracts with Arcadia itself, where a changeling is a blank template, ready to be molded by their True Fae into whatever He/She/It requires...The Nameless was never molded and is the proto-changeling.
- Actually, The Nameless is all seemings and all kiths, able to utilize each one at a time.
- The Nameless is a fugitive being hunted by the Harriers on Earth.
- The Nameless seeks to retrieve his name from the Keeper that stole it from him. Rumors say that if he ever gets it back, he will become a very powerful Fairest, and unify many Lost as a great guardian and leader. Until then, he truly *is* nothing.
- The Nameless is actually one of the Gentry, one who was kicked out of Fairie. He is now trying to manipulate the Winter Court to enable him to re-enter Arcadia. How he is doing this, is anyone's guess.
