Origins: A flute prodigy as a child, he disappointed his parents and teachers bitterly when he left his career as a concert flautist to to study business and take an internship with a local stockbroker firm. He quickly showed a flair for making money. Spending huge amounts of money, but rarely failing to double his investments.
Jonas' dedication to his job won him much praise amongst the local business community, but his flute teacher was furious, His parents; heart broken. One other was disappointed by his abandonment of his flute, a Fae.
Durance: The Fae wanted Jonas and more importantly, his music. So one night he appeared to Jonas in a dream, offering him fame and wealth in return for a single concert. The moment Jonas agreed he was swept away to Arcadia and forced to perform for his Keeper's staff and court day and night. His every waking moment was now taken up by one never ending performance. His fingertips and lips became raw, then torn and bloody. Dissatisfied with how this physical weakness detracted from it's enjoyment, The Fae exerted it's will upon the unconscious musician.
Jonas woke the next morning to find himself changed beyond recognition. His hurts had gone, but his physical form had been transformed into a swirling vortex, an incarnate whirlwind. He was now forced to play around the clock.
Over the years Jonas learned to use his privileged position to earn favours from the lesser Gentry. Playing requests in return for food and blankets for the other changelings in his master's service or for boons which he would then trade with other Fae. Inevitably, he suffered horribly at the hands of Fae who resented him trading the boons they had offered. After all, a favour owed to a slave is nothing, but even a small boon to another Fae can be disastrous.
Of course his keeper found out about Jonas' desire to protect the other abductees. By threatening harm to them he would then force Jonas out into the world, where he would use his flute to entice others and lewer them into the Hedge where his keepers hounds were waiting.
Wracked by guilt, Jonas began to tend more to the changligs that he had brought to Arcadia. Futilely trying to lessen the suffering he had brought to them.
The Treaty: As a game, His keeper and a neighboring aggressor each ordered a one of their changeling slaves to negotiate a peace treaty. Aided by changlings on both sides, the two mortals hammered out a Contract (looking for PC's to play the two primary negotiators). Foremost amongst the clauses of the Contract was the disbanding of both Fae's armies, including the release of all slaves, human or otherwise.
While both Fae agreed to the Contract, they both intended to simply round up their emancipated slaves and press them back into service, ideally capturing as many of the other's conscripts as possible as well.
What both Keepers were unaware of was that Jonas had discovered a cave system which led to the Hedge. Upon their release, Jonas led the assembled changlings into the caves and out of Arcadia. It was dark in the tunnels and many got separated while fighting their way clear of the Hedge, appearing all over the world.
Current Activities:
Upon escaping the hedge, Jonas' luck took a turn for the better, while he had been gone for 10 years, only 5 had passed in the real world and his fetch had disappeared soon after he was taken. Feigning amnesia, Jonas walked right back into his old job. His parents however harboured their resentment, wanting nothing to do with their son.
It was while he was struggling to fit back into mortal society, beset by nightmares and tortured by the rejection of his parents that Jonas was found by an Autumn Court stormlord known as "The Tempest". The Tempest brought Jonas into the Autumn court and suggested that he learn oneiromancy to deal with his nightmares.
After a party held by the Spring Court of Sydney which culminated in the Hedge surrounding the house they had gathered in, Jonas realised the untapped potential in Australia's Changeling community and founded the Merchant's Guild.
At the Tempest's urging Jonas had mastered his Elemental nature, but over time, he saw that he was still living in his keeper's shadow. He had allowed his physical change to define himself and the way he interacted with the world in general. He resolved to redefine himself and regain as much of his lost humanity as he could.
Jonas began to feel out of place in the Autumn court. So he left and after investigating the other courts remained separate. Since leaving the Courts, little has become widely known of Jonas the man. His reputation for honesty and fair dealing have allowed him to earn a position of favour with each of the four Courts. And he actively seeks out Changlings with a vision, that he can help to turn into reality. But few beyond his mentor, his motley and the Merchant Guild Reeves know more than hearsay.
Allies
The Pied Piper has no Court of his own but is well regarded by all the Courts as he has dealt with them all on an even basis for years.
He has agents in every city in Australia. Be they the Reeves of the Merchant's Guild or the network of Traders, Craftsmen, Enchanters, Thieves and Information Brokers he has assembled over the past 15 years.
Enemies
The only people who seem to have difficulties with The Piper are the Margravte of the Brim, who resent the Piper's support of the Court system even as he stands apart from it. Apart from these, the Piper will go to great lengths to ensure there are none who bare him ill will.
Quotes
From the Piper:
What's your dream? What do you need to make it happen?
Walk softly, carry a cellphone and have a lot of friends with big sticks.
About the Piper:
From a Firecourt Beast; "I still haven't worked out if he's good or evil, but he's real scarey."
Rumors
No one can be that well regarded. What happened to the people he hasn't dealt fairly with... There must be some, right?
The Pied Piper is a metaphor for the devil. Think about it.
