Overview

"They all look to the Hedge with frightened eyes, waiting and watching. I can't blame them; I used to do it too. Then one day, I realized... we're all watching the Hedge." --Warland, Beast, The Crimson Court

The Rear Guard, despite the jokes cast at their name, take their duties seriously. While their brother and sister Changelings look to the Hedge, watching diligently for any sign of the Fae, the Rear Guard watches their flanks. They have heard of vampires and werewolves, and wonder, "if we are real, why can't they be?" They turn their backs to the Hedge, so that they can protect their brethren from the other things in the world.

Such a practice has its price among the others. While some fae see the value of their duties, many others do not, feeling that the random possibility of attack by myths and legends is no excuse to divert resources from watching for the Others. Other Changelings feel that any other myths and legends are actually distorted tales of Fae, and that the Rear Guard does fill a task, even if they are deluded about the reality of their adversaries.
