Purpose

To live free, spiting The Others with every waking moment.
To free others of their burdens, each Scion having a method best to them.
To defend the freedom of their fellow Scions, seeing that when one loses one's freedom others may follow.

Background

The Scions of Dionysus formed when the original two members, Johnathan and Joss, had to formalize what had previously been a casual relationship because of political pressures. Since then Johnathan has been attempting to recruit members among the Spring court of Colorado, among whom he is fairly well known.

Symbology

Often is Dionysus compared to the god Bacchus, with whom he shares many similarities. It is often missed that Dionysus was a later god, encompassing Bacchus and several other gods of similar domain. While Bacchus was a god dedicated to revelry, to the intoxication and debauchery that whine brought forth from the human spirit, Dionysus is a good deal more even tempered.

Dionysus was the god of wine and patron god of the theater, and the philosophy of that god had a more to do with freedom than debauchery. Dionysus and his followers celebrated the freedom that wine gave one from one's self. It was about a freedom from worry and care, freedom from inhibition and fear. This association with freedom and with the gods Liber and Libera is often missed.

Members of the motley all help others free themselves from their troubles, each in a different way. As long as a Changeling can do this, they will be considered for the motley regardless of Court. Jocelyn assists Changelings fresh from the hedge find a home in the mortal world, providing them a measure of safety that they have been without for far too long. Johnathan knows all to well that having the ability to break the rules is exhilarating and freeing in a very intoxicating way. Even the most stoic of the Lost find themselves smiling while Sunshine is present, proving her name to be quite apt.
