Inspirational Passage

"When a circus elephant is still young, he is attached by heavy chains to large stakes driven deep into the ground. He may pull and yank and strain and struggle, but the chain is too strong and the stake too rooted. One day the little elephant gives up, having learned that he cannot pull free. And from that day forward he can be "chained" with only a slender rope even though he has the strength to pull the whole circus tent over because he stops trying whenever he feels any resistance. Because he believes he cannot escape, he cannot."

Age: early 30's

"Of course I care about him; he's my brother! What do you think we are? Monsters?" - Laurel

Basic Timeline: Born in 1976, taken in 1988, and returned in 2003.

Current Activities: Although most of his brethren in The Enthorned dwell in south Florida, Thomas has made a niche for himself in the Fen of Brambles freehold where he is well-known for conducting business in black markets - particularly the goblin markets. Insights

On his sister, Laurel Thorn:

  • "She was all that mattered to me in the world before I was captured, and now that I have escaped she is still all that truly matters. I have no intention of letting anything stand in the way of being with her forevermore now that we are re-united, nor will I let anyone deny her the life she deserves."

On Som i'Seely:

  • "I've heard many call Som i'Seely a "hive of scum and villainy", as if other freeholds were shining beacons of purity and righteousness. Like so many other things in this world, I can only smile at such words. We are a society populated with those who have endured bizarre and inhuman torture - typically both physical and psychological - at the hands of alien, god-like beings. And to escape that hellish nightmare of a world, we stripped away our souls on the thorns only to return to a world of crushed dreams filled with flimsy lies meant to delude us into believing we have some semblance of stability. Do you really believe that any place we call home is destined to be anything other than a place where brother would sell out brother to remain certain he eludes return to imprisonment? Go to any freehold in the world and have the Gentry burst through the front door. You will quickly see that freehold's supposed brotherhood and unity crumble away in an instant as every Lost thinks only of his own continued freedom. So who cares if the residents of Som i'Seely are cuthroats only out for their own gain and self-preservation? The situation is ultimately no different anywhere else, and frankly I'd much prefer to live somewhere that isn't filled with those who profess their fraternity to me during times of peace only to show me that their words of allegiance will not stand up to the threat of re-capture."

On Gaius Arctorus:

  • "Were he not so self-righteous, I might respect a man of his bravery. Might."

On Edria Meredith:

  • "She means the best, and I suppose that is to be admired. But she is destined to find only tragedy and misery in this world so long as she continues to give so much of herself so completely and without selfish gain. I suspect it won't be much longer before she is reduced to tears that flow from a wound that will not heal and then she will show everyone just how terrifying she really can be. I would hate to miss that moment."

Quotes

  • "You know, he may be a sneaky, manipulative, evil, power-hungry, hateful, twisted little shit..." "...But?" "What? No, no but. I was done. Hell, I think I might have just been admiring him." - Dzxoxian Brokehorn
  • "I can't believe he's related to Laurel. But then, when I met Laurel, I couldn't believe that she was related to me." - Jonathan Brooks
  • "Ward. Warden. Child of the monster. Keeper of the Keys. I've seen him across the room when the Lost gather. I can't talk to him. He doesn't deserve to be out." - Renn
  • "Were he not so vile, I might respect a man of his cunning. Might." - Gaius Arctorus
  • "The only comfort I find when considering the chance of Laurel's demise, is knowing he will be the one to lead our terrible vengeance." - Dominic Thorn
  • "He is one that still shows this old man respect. If we were still people, we would be friends... but as we are no more, we are just allies" - Revenant
  • Yes I sometimes teach Thomas. Yes we're like night and day. Yes he's cunning and devious and I'm...well not. It's why I teach Thomas. I'll let you figure out the rest." - Edria Meredith
  • "He's smart. He's creepy. He's basically that kid that was getting picked on in high school then summoned up a demon to kill all the bullies. Still, he can figure things out really well. Let me go into the tower and fight the hedge beasts to get hold of the artifact we need to save the freehold... but let him figure out how to use it. That relationship works for me and I think it works for him too. As long as we keep the relationship mutually equitable I think he and I will be just fine." - Van Silverstorm
  • "He seemed so nice. No; that's not true. He seemed smart. But there's things you shouldn't do. Ever. Things there's no coming back from. And it's not because they're bad. It's because they're stupid. Even I know that, and I'm insane." - Holly O' the Thorns

Rumors

Blue has indicated that Thomas was her captor for a time in Arcadia... But if thats true, you'd think she'd avoid him, or be afraid or something. Instead, she kneels at his feet while he pets her hair, and shows every sign of devotion. Must be some kind of Stockholm thing. It seems like she actually trusts him... not in spite of their history, but because of it.

Thomas hates all members of the Spring Court and is secretly attempting to get as many Spring courtiers enslaved under his control as possible. Thus far, the Spring kings of Tampa and Miami have already fallen prey to Thomas' machinations.

Thomas Thorn? Totally raped a dog. True story.

Thomas only lies when he's whispering.

Thomas takes the phrase "Shoot first and ask questions later" literally. For example: Bang bang! "Hey, I need to ask you something..."

Thomas wouldn't need to shoot nearly so many people if he would just speak up so they could hear him the first time...
