"A WOLF WON'T EAT WOLF"

Arbres.jpg

Upon that night, when fairies light
On Cassilis Downans dance,
Or owre the lays, in splendid blaze,
On sprightly coursers prance;
Or for Colean the route is ta'en,
Beneath the moon's pale beams;
There, up the cove, to stray and rove,
Among the rocks and streams
To sport that night.

The intent of the Manor

Growth, Healing, Beauty, and Hope permeate the exterior atmosphere of The Thorndale Manor. Lush gardens cover the grounds decorated with the plants of the season. Arien Wynters, the new proprietor, will attend to the small details that would make life more comfortable during your visit. Anything from a Motley meeting, Court meetings, general social gatherings are welcome upon the grounds as long as prior notification is given to avoid overbookings. The Manor serves as a clinic as well to tend to those who have found themselves injured.

Remodeled to retain the reflection and elegance of its era, Thorndale Manor is located down beach from Atlantic City in the beautiful historic city of Ventnor and was orginally purchased and renovated for Clara by Vladimir Karakov prior to her leaving the property in the hands of her former Motley. You are welcome to sit and relax by the fire on chilly days in the main parlor where the sun glistens through the stained glass window and just relax in peace while your body and mind recuperate; or, take a walk in the expansive and growing garden in warmer weather.

The sign over the door says more than needs to be said: A WOLF WON'T EAT WOLF. People of the same group, occupation, interests live, or should live, together in amity and while present in the manor, all will follow this.

Arien is presently working to associate himself with The Innkeepers, who are a loose network of shelters, clinics, homes, and safe-houses for Changelings who need help. Individual houses will vary greatly from formal institutions to simple bolt-holes, but they all have the desire to aid Changelings in common.

Services provided by Arien and Rya

Arien and Rya both are skilled in the healing arts as well as the contract boons of Spring to promote healing. They keep a supply of modern and herbal drugs on hand as well as minor stock of goblin fruits. For those who need a roof over their head or a meal for the night such needs are cared for. Visitors who wish to stay in the city are welcome to spend a night as well pending if one does not object to floor space should the beds be filled with injured.

Rya can be often found sitting outside in a chair making clothing for those in need or entertaining one's spirit with a dance or music from her harp.

Arien tends to be easily found in the gardens tending to the herbal gardens and making sure the manor is stocked with the necessary supplies to serve the Changling Community.

Accommodation's and Amenities

The manor has been renovated to have five separate "guest" rooms, four of which have multiple beds for maximum occupancy. While during slow times Arien will happily place guests in separate rooms, he does try to make sure he has room for all that wish to or are in need of his services.

  • The Hunsford Room is the only single occupancy room for guests. Normally it's reserved for personal guests or those who have suffered more grave injuries and need the extra quite for their recooperative stay.
  • The Netherfield Suite is the largest and has a private bath connected. During the spring, summer and fall, guests may also enjoy the sitting room with a view of the garden. Because of the nature of this sitting room (the room is on stilts), it is unavailable during the winter months.
  • The Pemberley Suite is a comfortable suite that also includes a full bath attached and has a gas heater fireplace for the evenings during cooler months.
  • The Rosings Suite is comprised of two rooms, a sitting area and is secluded from other guests. It is located on the third floor. Because of it's seclusion and small size, despite the sitting area, it too is a first choice for guests who need extra care during the night, or whom need the extra rest and quiet.
  • The Longbourn Suite is a comfortable suite that has a gas heater fireplace for the evenings during cooler months and is located on the main floor.

The common areas include The Parlor where stately mahogany columns grace the opening. The centerpiece is an original gas log fireplace with a beautiful mahogany double mantel and Italian marble tiles enriching the face. Period wallpaper designs and antiques accentuate the home's lovely interior and can be found throughout. Decorative lightining and splash of plant life gives the area an open welcome feeling.

The house perpetually smells of baked goods, breads and other foods that tempt. The Kitchen is open to all pending responsibility to clean up after it's use. The bottom floor also houses a library that has been expertly decorated to evoke warmth and masculinity. A large fireplace dominates one side and the walls are lined in old books that invite those inside to read them. A large desk makes a presences along with two high backed chairs and a small table with a board etched into it.

Gardens and outside spaces

From the front the manor looks like a small personal estate trapped in a moment of time when things moved slow and beauty appreciated. The outer grounds are surrounded by a large fence as measures of security were built in mind of perserving the peace. Upon touring the grounds visitors will find three distinct gardens that surround the house. The Shade Garden quietly sits under the canopy of an old paper-shell Pecan tree and is flanked by several varieties of fruit trees. Enjoy the soothing sound of moving water from an antique water pump continuously filling an old galvanized tub. Relax in a large hammock, lounge in Adirondack chairs or sip tea or lemonade from a wire-framed ice cream parlor table and chairs. The tree branches gently sway over creeping ivy, asparagus fern, hostas, bleeding hearts, begonias, and other shade-loving plants.

A cypress mulch and river pebble path curves around the south side of house and through the Sun Garden, crowded with butterfly-attracting plants and bright-colored perennials and annuals that love the sun. A painted bench is tucked between a tall spirea shrub and a fragrant four-O'clock (a favorite of hummingbirds during the twilight hour). The bench provides a perfect spot to survey the varieties of roses lining the other side of the path.

As it continues, the path flows into the Summer Garden, where one encounters a fountain statuary of two children sharing the cover of an umbrella during a sudden but perpetual afternoon shower. A curved wrought iron and wood-slat park bench, flanked by native hibiscus plants with enormous blooms, provides an opportunity to enjoy the fountain as well as the peonies, strawberries and clematis surrounding it. Herbs, peppers, tomatoes, and other kitchen garden plants follow the clematis, leading up to an impressive painted wrought-iron style garden arch covered by mandevilla vines with numerous lovely pink blooms.

Not only do these picturesque hiding spots show off while in bloom, but also aid to to set the mood when the leaves start to change and the orange, reds and golds transform them into an even more beautiful surrounding to relax and heal in.

The cost of comfort

Arien and Rya seem to be compassionate of those who have found themselves in need however, everything comes with a price, no matter how small. Generally Arien and Rya will accept whatever trade of favors for those who utilize his and Rya's service. For the most part they hold a strong sense of honor to one good turn deserves another. Anything from helping out with mundane tasks about the manor to teaching of contracts, to future services one can provide, or anything else of merit one can produce. The key aspect is passing along the good to the next person who may need aid.

Those who have came

  • Arien Steele- Known to be associated with the Manor often times found in the garden tending to the grounds. Helping Clara tend to the injured. Runner boy for supplies for the house when contact with the mortal world is needed.
  • Ashton Keyes - He often ferries fellows hurt in the Hedge to the sanctuary.
  • Jack Freeman - Is a man who was brought to Clara along with his charge to recover. Clara considers Mr. Jack a model patient, all things considered.
  • Lucifer - Both a patient and a protector of the Manor, Lucifer's aid is always welcomed by Clara, though it's hard to tell why.
  • Rigger - Trained and worked at The Thorndale Manor. Clara guided the young changeling when he came to her with a thirst to take pain.
  • Stephen Daedalus - Is often seen around the Manor, regularly hired by Clara and her associates to ensure her safety.
  • Vladimir Karakov - Orginally bought the proporty for Clara and fixed it up. It's easy to suspect that the Magician helps Clara with the funds for upkeep. He visits weekly for a meal or tea.
  • Cahalenn - A frequent visiter for afternoon tea and conversation, Cahalenn also enjoys bringing Clara books for Thorndale's library.
  • Gilded - While not a common visitor Gilded has had to be treated upon occasion. He also offers what aid he can to Clara when she desires.
