Summation: Thorne's time in Arcadia pushed her to her limits, and she is quite surprised that she was able to escape with the level of clarity that she possesses. She knows all to well what happens to those that become lost amongst the Thorns of the Hedge, or whose spirits are broken in the "care" of their Keepers. She made a vow to herself that she would utilize her fae-taught gifts to benefit other Lost, and to do what she can to assist them on their way to recovering their lives in the way they see fit. She retains her fae-given name as a reminder to herself of the ordeals she has experienced and that living every moment in spite of her time in Arcadia and in utilizing the knowledge and abilities distilled in her there, she twists the corruption of the circumstances into something more positive and beneficial for the Lost instead of the True Fae she was once forced to serve.
Appearance (Mask): Thorne stands at a modest 5 feet tall- considered short by some, yet her frame seems willowy nonetheless. Her eyes are a striking blend of blues, violet, and lavender. Her complexion is rather pale yet slightly rosy, and seems almost translucent- in some places her veins are clearly outlined beneath her skin. However, one must sometimes look twice if you catch her in your peripheral vision to ensure that you really did see her there. Her hair falls in luxuriant glossy black waves, and if the light catches it just right you can see hints of various hues of purple, blue, crimson, pinks, green. She always ensures that her shoppe keeps in stock a veritable rainbow array of colors is available in herbal hair dyes, so she can fend off any queries with a sales pitch. There always seems to be a gentle draft of a breeze around her, that reminds one of a brisk spring day, and, surrounding her always, the blended scent of rose and wisteria.
Appearance (Mein): Thorne's true appearance, molded in Faerie, is something to behold. Her height is the same as witnessed in her Mask, and her eyes are of the same hues and patterning, if more vibrant. Her skin has an ethereally translucent quality that shimmers in the light, as if the rays of light were caught reflecting off of early morning dew. Beneath her skin, her veins are visible...wickedly thorned brambles. One gets the impression that if you were to squeeze her, it would not be a pleasant experience. Her fingers are long and dexterous, ending in elongated points that could easily be mistaken for thorns. Yet softening the prickly 'interior', flowers adorn her form like vibrant tattoos. Wisteria and roses in full or in some places only petals, bloom forth from the brambles within. Her hair is comprised of thin viney tendrils in varying shades of green (some thorny and some not), and adorned with roses and wisteria, in varying shades, blooming forth.
"Day Job": Thorne runs a special place she dubbed "Ambrosia" - A Shoppe of the Holistic Arts & Gourmet Cafe. She specializes in Holistic Therapies such as Aromatherapy, Holistic Healing, nutritional supplements, etc. She always has unique items in stock, and makes quite a lot of her inventory, herself. As part of her establishment, and as an extension of the nutritional aspect of her wares, Thorne's shop also doubles as a gourmet cafe. For those that know how to ask, it is said that she always has a scintillating "special of the day." It is also rumored that she has a special "back room" of inventory that only certain patrons are able to peruse.
Prelude: The Taking
Rose Marie Thornhill was like most 16-year-olds. She went to High School, enjoyed spending time with her friends, and loved having fun. Rose always enjoyed shopping, makeup, perfumes, and all the other “girly” distractions; however, she was also a bit of an academian as well – but never so much as to gain the “nerd” label. She had a dream that, one day, she would become the owner of a world famous perfume house.
During Rose’s Senior year of High School (she was a year ahead), she decided to make her Science Project for the year based around her aspirations – and perhaps, if she won a prize or something of that nature, she would get the recognition she needed to get a scholarship for college. That would help her get her foot in the door, also, in bringing her dream to fruition. Her favorite flowers were roses and wisteria. She intended to make a hybrid plant that combined both, and thus (hopefully) combining their scents. Such flowers would make divine perfumes.
Rose went through several unsuccessful attempts at splicing the two plants together. She held out hope, yet, that she would find the right way to accomplish what she sought. Finally, it seemed that the plant fusion was beginning to go well for her – though if this final try would have truly succeeded, she will never know.
It was Spring Break, and Rose set off on her Senior Trip with a group of friends. They headed to Orlando, FL for a week of fun and sun. One night, they all decided to go to the local Medieval Times dinner theatre. Her group sat in the Green Section, which patroned the “Green Knight.” Before jousting began, the knights rode around the arena and bestowed upon one “fair maiden,” within their section, a “token” of their affection (which was usually a handkerchief) - to indicate that they were competing in the tournament for that special girl. Rose’s best friend, Elizabetta, was the lucky girl chosen by the Green Knight. Rose cheered and clapped and razzed her friend playfully about the hankie (while secretly wishing it had been given to herself, instead.
Many rounds of the jousting competition took place, and a good time was had by all. Finally, after the final contest of the tournament, the Green Knight emerged victorious. Upon winning the Tournament, the “King” asked the winning Knight to choose a “Queen of Love and Beauty,” from among the audience, to be brought up to the Royal Box. Rose was convinced that the Knight would come back for Elizabetta – since he had won the tourney in her honor already. Though, it surprised her greatly when the dashing Green Knight sprang from his horse, leapt into the stands, and swept Rose up into his arms, as if she weighed no more than a pampered housecat.
Rose, astonished and awestruck, was brought up to the Royal Box to meet the King and for her “Coronation.” Once she was again seated – this time beside the King, still in the Royal Box – the finale of the event commenced. The show was a grand display – and the knights were all a veritable feast for the eyes. Rose thought, in that moment, that it was the best time of her life. Perhaps that was all too true.
Once the show was over, the King brought her “backstage” to meet the Knights and share a snack before going back out to her friends in the audience. There was only one problem – the Rose that returned to her friends was not “The Rose” – it was really a Fetch, and Rose Marie Thornhill had just become one of the Lost.
