Overview
Alias(es): Tom, Tom Behind the Bar, King Tom, Thomas Brewer
Real Name: Tom. Just Tom.
Age: 41
Concept: Gregarious taverner/Underground Railroad operator
Virtue: Hope
Vice: Greed
Title: King of the Ashen Court for the Freehold of Toronto, Ontario.
Entitlement: The Scarecrow Ministry.
Physical description: Tom is short and stout, his face creased with wrinkles and marked with a few scars. His Mien, standing about 5'2" when not hunched, reveals that his ruddy-cheeked face is a little more gnarled, with the slightest hint of a bark-like consistency. The air around him seems to alternate between the warmth and comfort reminiscent of a mug of cider and the cold bitterness of the wind that portends the coming of winter. His breath occasionally bears fleeting vestiges of diverse odours, with his exhalations having been known to change from fermented plums one moment to roasted chestnuts the next. He typically speaks with a low, gravelly voice that barks when his temper flares. He is rarely seen without his favourite mug: a simple pewter tankard, visibly dented and scuffed from years of good use, with a stylized leaf at the top of the handle.
Relevant Mechanics: Pledge-bound to the Upstairs Underground.
Motto: Fatum sapientes defendit ("fate protects the wise"); sine scientia ars nihil est ("without knowledge, skill is nothing").
Character Information
Known History
Basic Timeline:
- Born in January of 1967, in London, England.
- Worked at a brewpub in London's East End through his teen years and into his twenties, displaying a talent and an affinity for the nuances of brewing and alcohol distillation.
- In 1988, he was lured into Arcadia by what he perceived to be a beautiful woman after impressing her with his bartending prowess in filling an obscure order.
- Spent his apparently-lengthy durance fabricating and repairing Fae brewing and distilling machinery (and sometimes being a component therein) and brewing bizarre concoctions (sometimes with his own body being a vessel).
- Focussed on the idea of "London" to finally get him home, and ended up on the outskirts of London, ON, a few weeks later in 1988 than when he left.
- Dejectedly thinking that the Gentry were playing yet another trick on him, he was pleasantly surprised to be taken in by the changeling Underground Railroad, operating covertly in the London area, who gave him financial assistance and helped him begin his reintegration with mortal society.
- After a brief stay in the London area, he was pointed toward Toronto, where he found employment in the service industry, working at restaurants and bars in the Junction area, and saving up enough money to eventually take ownership of his own establishment.
- Swore an oath in the Clearinghouse Ruins on February 2, 2008, and became the King of Autumn for the Freehold of Toronto, Ontario.
- Attended the gathering at the Goblin Market in London on March 15, 2008.
- Accepted Pantera Mint as an Autumn Knight on April 12, 2008.
Current Activities:
- Owner and operator of The Other Side of the Tracks, colloquially referred to as the Other Side Diner, a friendly neighbourhood diner by day, a bar by night, and a speakeasy and safe house for Lost.
Merit Details:
- New Identity: Having come out of Arcadia on the other side of the Pond with literally nothing but the Hedgespun clothes on his back, there was the necessity for him to assume a new identity.
Background: British.

- "Och, outta the green stuff again."
- "Fate protect you."
- "The next time I stop speaking English, let me know."
- "The Chair has spoken!" (upon the Throne of Queens emitting a flash of light and causing the sky to dim for a few seconds to confirm him as the Autumn King)
- "I must issue an apology to each and every one of you. It is with a heavy heart and great regret that I must announce... LAST CALL!" (near the end of the Winter Formal)
- "You have the choice: you can either spit, or you can swallow." (to Larka, holding a scrap of Kesper's flesh in her mouth, as the gremlin encouraged her to swallow it while Crys urged her to spit it out)
About Tom
- "Here's a health to the brewer-king that I know so well. / His manifold brewings have made my gut swell." -- Maxmellion Rouge, "Here's a Blessing of Springtime" (to the tune of "Here's a Health to the Company")
Rumours
