Yet in Thy Dark Streets Shineth (Description)
|
Mask:
Madwise is not so much thin as ethereal, giving one the impression of a mist or cloud that is both lingering and evanescent. His short hair is a dark disarray, matted with the detritus of whatever alleyway he slept in last night, and his clothing is a tattered journal of days and nights spent on the streets. Yet his sad, haunting gaze pierces the soul of those who dare to meet them, and the vision of this broken angel of the streets lingers in the mind and haunts the dreams of those who look too long.
Mien: Flowers - some with shining thorns - twine the tresses of his hair and dangle in shimmering disarray about his shoulders, and petals fall softly in his wake, a living carpet. His eyes are luminous, star sapphires above alabaster skin like a marble statue, and an evanescent cloud of small butterflies surrounds him. Heady scents surround him with a gentle breeze that wafts an exotic perfume, spinning the mind about the jagged axes of love, desire, wrath, fear and sorrow.
Behind the Mask that incompletely shrouds his fae mien, there is something wholly lost and forlorn about him, as if he has searched for so long that he himself has forgotten what he truly sought.
Mantle:
Whose borrowed Mantle encircles his shoulders, bloodstained and soiled, its royal majesties tattered from the Thorns? What awe-full truths does the Madwise behold through his mismatched eyes?
Notable Traits: Dirty. Thin. Hollow-eyed. Madwise is the picture of a starving, tattered street youth; only his inhuman, angelic features and haunting, mismatched eyes set him apart. Day and night he wanders as if through a waking dream down the streets and alleyways, searching, searching...

Graffiti in the Alley(Quotes)
Please feel free to add a quote, either about Touchstone, your own PC, or simply reflections on being Lost.
- "Don't follow me. I'm lost." -Touchstone Madwise, Gutter Prince
- "And the heart that is soonest awake to the flowers is always the first to be touch'd by the thorns." Thomas Moore
- "Once upon a time there was a small spark of fire that burned low and spat and sputtered, threatening to exhaust forever. In the darkness that smelled of herbs and teas and flowers, the spark found an even brighter flame, one of warmth and heat and internal fire. And the spark reached out her hand, wishing upon the winking flames of night that she might feel what it was to be so bright. But the spark could not feel him, only taste; his flavor increasing her desire to feel more than just this raw and unsatiated hunger for him. His flame ignited her own, and the fires mingled. When the blaze walked away, his flavor remained, coating her heat with it until only his scent remained; a bittersweet reminder of him as he burned in more ways than one underneath her..." - Calliope
- "I don't know if you can comprehend what it is like to stare at the dark mirror...they spoke of it in a book I read once, but if you can, it's enough to say that I've found mine. It's hard to look within for very long, we both of us keep on the move to avoid looking too long." - Thorn
- "Ssssshhheeeit... 'at boy jus' ain't right." - Clyde

- Madwise is a veritable magnet for the Others. For some reason, they want him back far more than most Lost.
- ...because he's somehow instrumental to the plans of the Gentry for their imminent, broad-scale war on the Fae.
- ...because Wyrd ten plus Clarity zero = new Gentry.
- Madwise found the Fountain of Youth, but discovered that it could not be brought back to the world...
- Madwise looks young, but is older than most Lost around him - or so say the street folk of the many cities he has wandered.
- Wherever he goes, Madwise knows someone, or knows someone who knows someone, among the homeless and streetfolk.
- ...to the point where he is an urban legend (Fame 2: Emperor of Seattle).
- Madwise is an oneiromancer who has lost the power to tell the difference between dreaming and waking.
- He avoids the Hedge not because of the Gentry, but because it seems to warp itself and prophesy...
- Madwise is also known as His Imperial Majesty Touchstone I, Emperor of the Dreamlands and Protector of the Hedge.
- Madwise has been the King of Spring Court in the Freehold of the Seven Hills since March, 2000.
- ...and the irony does not escape him.
- ...but the Court of Dreams is one hell of a party.
- His eyes are different colors because one of them used to belong to his Keeper, The Masked Lord.
- If it's true... which is which?
- ...and what if it's really true that his Keeper can sometimes see out of his purloined eye?
- This is the seventh reign of Madwise as King of Spring in the Freehold of Seven Hills. Huh. I suppose His Madness must not have crashed and burned the Freehold the last six times, so we'll likely survive this one too. Hope springs eternal...
