A Cautionary Tale

“On a Cold Winter’s Night, dark branches took the children from the Queen. So lonely and caressed by despair, she devoured her love’s heart, that his searing flesh might warm her savage emptiness. She ran down the halls, cold blood seeped into the stones. Her keening, incomprehensible to any who could bear to listen. Every night, the wind shifts through the valley, passed all that is new and old, carrying her pleas to see her children once again."

Over the years, the Queen noticed that the children’s devotion to the King. History of the Valley (Mortal)

Stanislaus County was once a booming community of agriculture. Remarkably the depression years of 1930’s did nothing to stem the tide of growth and production. And yet somehow, in the 1940’s and 50’s things changed. Close friends became distant neighbors and distant neighbors became strangers. Quaint hospitable towns became a thing of the past much like the trust that was once as abundant as the crops that grew here. No one can say for sure when this all started or who is responsible for it. Perhaps it was the careless city folk who had recently decided to make their homes here. Or perhaps it was the migrant farm workers who traveled from place to place like so many locusts. What most know for sure is that it was outsiders who caused this blight and somehow, someway, someone has to pay.
