Background: Mortal brother of Gaius Arctorus

Tyler Brooks was born in 1935, and has brothers named Maxwell and Calin and sister Isabel.

He was taken by the Fae Master, Marcus Julius Draconis, and dragged into the Arcadia through the Hedge in 1950. While in Arcadia, Tyler was warped by the Wyrd and shaped into a wizened smith to better fit Draconis’ concept of a servant. It seemed that Draconis felt the best smiths were dwarves and that is what Tyler became. Tyler was tasked with learning crafting metal to create weapons and armor for Draconis’s stable of gladiators. He was beaten severely when the items did not meet the Fae Master’s ideas of perfection.

While in Arcadia, Draconis tasked him with creating the ultimate sword and shield to be a prize for the Grand Gladiatorial Spectacle, in which hundreds of changelings would be pitted against one another to the death for the amusement of the gathered Fae Masters. With the assistance of the ancient contracts of magic of the Fae, that were enacted by Draconis himself, Tyler was able to craft two items of unsurpassed perfection, the likes of which he will never be able to reproduce. When he made his escape from Arcadia, he took the items with him and has hidden them away for the time when a true champion arises and has need of these weapons.

When Maxwell and company made their escape from Arcadia, Tyler jumped at the opportunity to leave. On their torturous journey out through the Hedge, they encountered Kalen, the Beast Hunterheart, who helped guide their lost party out of danger.

He took on the name of Wayland Smith in honor of the legendary dwarven smith from Germanic/Scandinavian mythology.
