History (OOC)
Merit Details: Fame x 1 - Ex Las Vegas Extreme Stage Magician
Pre Abduction: The Prestige
An industry nickname given to a young stage magician, who built his act thru State fairs, displaying dangerous feats of illusion, near death stunts, and a stage presence that kept an audience breathless. His assistant, Veronica, an alluring and sensuous beauty whose dark style tempted the good, and entranced the wicked. Together they put on show saturated with sexual overtone, danger, and unquestionable magic, which eventually landed their act in Las Vegas. It was there that as their performance intensified, as did their friendship.
Little did he know that as his show began to gain the attention of the larger casinos, it also gained the eye of a power unimaginable. Never were he and Veronica more successful in their profession, debuting a new Vegas level act featuring a tango mixed with death defying swordplay. That night in the fall of 2004, marked Veronica’s last moment as her final breaths were spent on that stage in his arms. He had killed his friend, trusted assistant, and what could have eventually been even something eternal. With her died his art.
Taken into service, the otherworldly being decided that the Prestige would serve him well… as a contestant.
The Most Dangerous Game: Contestant 741
As a slave of the Bramble and Lash Hunting Society, a contestant is forced to train, fight, and evolve into physical paragons each holding only the feint hope of escape, via the Game. Terrorized by the Lash, training for contestants consisted of a decade of mixed acrobatics, strength training, sprinting, wrestling, distance running, torture, martial arts, starvation, and survival tactics. Those who survived the Training, were then mentally prepared to play the Game. Minds bombarded with images of personal pain, suffering and regret each unique to their past lives and various virtues. Each contestant who held up to this mental torture knew what it truly was to hate, to know sorrow, to seek escape.
Much fan faire surrounded the evening of the Game, as the handful of surviving Contestants from that batch lined up, dusted with chalk. Dead stares on each of the contestants of various Seeming’s, as many of the overly elaborate dressed blood thirsty Fae attending the evening, openly inspected the Contestants showing great interest in the Darkling for few were ever entered into the Training, and none had ever made it to the Game.
As if returning war heroes, the band struck up as the members of the Bramble and Lash Hunting Society each rode in on gaudy chariots, regaled with banners and thunderous applause. After much ceremony, the Game began as the Contestants were unleashed with but a few minutes lead, racing towards what they hoped was freedom.
What ever happened to Contestant 741? Well it is a safe bet the Bramble and Lash Hunting Society will hesitate before training a Magician to run the Game ever again. For this disappearing act had no flashy conclusion, just a trail of striding footprints that disappeared into darkness heading towards the Hedge.
Yet if they ever get the chance, the Society hungers for a rematch…
Lost: Whisper
Escaped from hell. Broken, remorseful and a strong desire to learn how to live once again. Darkness claims his voice. Will he ever be able to feel again? Can he shake the horrors of the Training, the pain, sorrow, and anger he hides cloaked in night?
Time will tell.
