Physical description:

Mask: 6"1" with tight compact muscle, Jayjay has some of the palest skin you'll ever see. It's almost as if he's never seen sunlight. However, this in no way detracts from the fact that Jayjay is usually one of the most attractive people in the room. His hair is jet black, though he usually keeps it shaved quite short, and his eyes are, naturally, the color of the sea. His attire is usually solid black. He tries to keep to himself, but as soon as he speaks people sort of gravitate in his direction.

Mien: In his true form, Jayjay is the vision of a fairytale merman, or triton. His height is about all that stays the same in both forms. His skin, while still pale, has a colorful luster, comparable to Mother-of-Pearl. In various places, though mostly on his legs and webbed feet, are patches of golden scales which shine, even in the darkest of shadows. His hair has more color than a coral reef, but even in his mien, it remains shaved. Even in bright light, it seems as if there is stardust in his eyes. In this form, even the Fairest of Lost tend to notice his unearthly beauty.

Background:

Jayjay was born William Terrell to a rich family in Boston, MA. In 2004, when he graduated high school, his parents offered that he take the yacht out on the Mediterranean Sea, as a graduation present. Naturally, he accepted. He would set out from the island Cyprus and land three days later in Greece. When he and his three best friends arrived in Cyprus, they weren't at all set back by the locals' warnings about sailing under the full moon. They found it "cute" that the sailors still believed in such myth. They weren't at all worried about stories with wrathful sirens and nereids whose gaze, under full moon light, could drive a man insane. Nor were they worried that those same nereids had a reputation for stealing people away, at night. Eager to set sail, they did not heed the locals' warnings and, soon, night was upon them. At first, all was well. They reminisced about school, drank, listened to music, danced and had an awesome time. After a few hours of merry making, Will decided to go to bed. Not long after he fell asleep, he was suddenly awakened by the jarring motion of the boat speeding forward. He left his cabin to find Miriam, one of his friends, stumbling around the deck, blubbering insanely. Will shook her, trying to get her to calm down, but all she would say was, "she's so beautiful, she's so beautiful." In the distance, Will could here a very strange sound, strange, but beautiful. A woman's voice maybe? He rushed for the helm only to find Adam, another of his friends, stirring in the direction of the voice...toward a massive rock formation! Will tried to fight Adam off the wheel, but to no avail and, after a very few, terrifying moments, they crashed. Will felt a sharp, white pain in the back of his head, as he was hurled overboard. As he sank into the blood-dimmed tides, all he could think about was Ryan, the other friend on board, the one he did not see on deck before the accident, ...the one he loved. As the water filled his lungs, he saw his life flash before his eyes and he peacefully surrendered to death. In the last second, before he was sure he'd see a "white light," he heard the sweetest whisper in his ear. "Come, darling," it said, "I shall teach you to breathe again! For, now, you shall breathe only for me."

He opened his eyes to beauty and wonderment. However, it was a maddening beauty, and he was frightened. He began to weep and call out to the Gods for help. "My, what an injurious sound! That shall be quite enough of that," the mermaid declared. With that, the once queenly sea goddess melted away into a loathly sea hag. "Now, you ungrateful scamp, I shall silence you for good!" Then the creature reached out its defiling, clawed hand and pulled Will's voice right from between his lips and placed it in a jar. "I shall put this to good use," she said. She then took the gold of his hair, the touch of his skin, and the warmth of his blood. "Only once you have been perfected shall you be of any use to me," the crone snarled. After that, Will was forever changed, for better or worse.

His keeper would change periodically, from crone to maid, maid to crone, and her needs were never the same. As the shining maiden, she was beautiful and regal. She would use him as a ward, a lover, or anything else her fickle mind could think of. She would have him comb her hair for hours on end. As a reward, she would hand him a looking glass and say to him, "Behold your beauty, that I, your undoubted mistress, have granted you." He would barely have time to lift the glass before she would grow angry at his "vanity" and strike him, usually drawing blood. She would then change him into a mirror for days, so that he could only look upon her own beauty. As the dreaded sea hag, she was calculating and vicious. She would use him as her assistant in her conjuring. If he were to tremble at her unrelenting monstrosity, she would beat him until he was numb. If he shed a tear at her cruelty, she would send a storm, or drown a small child, to teach him the "true" meaning of cruelty.

Will endured these conditions for over two years. Although she beat and broke his body, she never touched his soul. It was not long before he formulated a plan of escape. One dreadful night, while the hag was practicing her diabolical craft, Will called up his courage and approached the dark Lady. He marveled at her magic and, of course, she took notice. "You think that great," the hag cackled. "I shall show you real power!" And with that, she lost herself to her conjuring. She called wind, rain, and lightening, but in her wretched glee, she failed to notice that Will had slipped away, stealing with him the voice of a siren. He swam faster than any sea creature had swam before. He swam and swam, until he came to the hedge.

Now, while under the sea, it must be said that the hedge is no mere underbrush of thorn and briar, but a reef of hard coral and sharp barnacle. But, for Will, any pain was better than his enslavement. He swam through the maze of razor-like shell which cut at him body, soul, and mind. He felt memories and passions leaving him, along with the scales ripped from his body. When he finally surfaced, he found himself back in the Mediterranean, under a bright and beautiful sun. He inhaled air for the first time in years, and it was wonderful pain. He coughed up blood for the first few breaths. Then, his body remembered the feel of air. He weakly swam, practically drifting to the shore of some Greek fishing town. He stood, wobbling at first, and, then, walked to town looking for a phone. At last, he would have his life back...or would he?
